Do you electronic toys sometimes play stuff by themselves?

Please tell me yes. ?A few of DS's toys just randomly played stuff when no one was near them. ?We live in an old house, so it kind of spooks me out.

  • Yeah, it freaks me out- his music table will start randomly playing.

  • One of Hadley's did this a couple weeks ago and it freaked me out!  I was home alone and I heard music and singing over the monitor.  I put new batteries in the culprit and haven't had any phantom toy act-ups since.
  • DD has a puzzle w. animal sounds, and if one of the animals isn't in it place it will just randomly start making the sounds. The first night we had it that thing went bonkers. Like at 2am a horse started naying in our living room. LOL.

  • This just happened last night to us. Around midnight his vTech helicopter started making noise downstairs and when DH went to check on it, it said "bye bye".
  • Yes, usually when I step too heavily or something like that though. Particularly his Melissa & Doug farm animal puzzle. That horse sounds satanic already and it doesn't help its cause when it goes crazy on its own.
  • The talking Elmo will start off at randome times so I assume other electronic toys do also
  • Yes.  Last night as I was falling asleep, I heard something that sounded like synthesizer drums.  I couldn't think of any toy we had that sounded like that, but convinced myself that the cat just set something off.  I told my husband about it this morning and he reminded me that her old bongo drum toy is in the attic.  The cats can't get up there.  That creeped me out.
  • His Melissa & Doug puzzle does this all the time - I feel like it's light activated? Everytime I turn off the light in the playroom I hear it go off!
  • This happened to me BEFORE he was born, and it took me over a week to figure out which toy was going off.  I was so confused!!!  In that case it was light-activated, and when the sun would come in the window a certain way and hit the basket of toys, the little duck would start quacking!  LOL.

Still happens occasionally, but it's not nearly so funny - or so spooky - as it was that first week when there wasn't even a baby in the house yet!

  • OMG yes! DD's mobile used to turn on all the time for NO reason. And I'm not all that convinced that its faulty wiring.
  • Yes, it's why most of them are turned off.  It seems to happen a lot right before lightning strikes in a thunderstorm, too.  Ugh.
