F/U to Jacket Post-Jackets for Toddlers?

I saw the post about infant winter gear but what is recommended for toddlers?  DD is in a convertible car seat but needs winter gear.  How do you dress your toddler if you're not supposed to use jackets??  Am I missing something?  We all know it's cold out and I'm not about to carry her outside with just a blanket wrapped around her.

Re: F/U to Jacket Post-Jackets for Toddlers?

  • I put him into a jacket and then tighten the car seat straps with the jacket on.  If it's a long trip and the car is warm, I remove the jacket and tighten the straps.  As long as it's tight... and the jacket isn't too puffy.  Like a fleece jacket that is as thick as a sweater.  We don't use puffy jackets unless we are playing outside anyway.

  • Loading the player...
  • DD wears her jacket.  It's not too bulky (fleece inside) so it's warm enough to walk to the car.  I bring extra blankets in the winter just incase we do have to leave the car.
  • the same rule for infants applies to toddlers. The same test will work with a convertible.

Some parents put their kids into the seat and then put their jackets on backwards.

We're getting a travel trench for Kennedy (www.cjsewingroom.com) for in the car seat, and she'll have a snow suit for outside play...we'll just bring it with us when we're going to need it.

  • I didn't register for a single snowsuit/jacket and have received five!!!  They are really nice ones too (and no gift receipts with any of them) so I won't be letting them go to waste.  I'll be following the suggestions from the previous post for ensuring the straps aren't too loose.
