at a u/s they can measure the neck and i think the femur to determine if there are any risks for downs. so if you had a u/s already, doc may want to talk about those results and possibly order another one. if you haven't had one yet, this is what they'll do.
I already had the u/s and the bw and they did all the measurements and whatnot and it came back as decreased risk for ds, but they said the doc was going to call me to talk about the u/s. So I was just wondering if that's normal, or if they would only want to do that b/c something was wrong? I wasn't clear in my firs post. sorry.
at our 12 week scan the measured the nuchal fold and looked for the presence of the nasal bone. The tech took lots of pictures and then sent us to a room where the doc then came in to discuss the pics. Nothing was wrong, she just wanted to go over things and talk about what the tests that they're doing mean and what to expect etc...
at my u/s they told me all the measurements were w/in the normal range (i would presume this would be similar to the phrasing of "decreased risk"). yesterday i had a phone call saying the bloodwork, rest of the evaluation was normal, too. but they were sending it all to my dr. and they would review it with me at my next appt.
The doc came to talk to us after our us because they found a choriod plexus cyst in our baby's brain. Our risk for DS and trisomy 18 according the blood work is very low (1 in 10,000) but the presence of the cyst makes it higher (still only 1in 5,000 though). So the doctor wanted to explain this and to tell me that they are going to do another us at 22 weeks to take a closer look at my baby's heart. So, it could be something like this, or it could be nothing. I hope its nothing. Let us know, OK?
Our baby was fine at the big u/s, but the doctor (a radiologist, not my OB) did want to talk to us because they found a dermoid cyst on my left ovary - probably benign and not a big deal unless it's painful, but that's why the doctor wanted to speak with us in addition to the tech. Good luck!
