Success after IF

Another Nanny Hiring Question

We decided to go with a nanny for the first year after I go back to work.  I have been dragging my feet about finding/hiring anyone.  I would rather wait until they are born so I have a better idea of when I will be going back to work, but that doesn't leave me a ton of time to find someone.

How long did it take you to find a nanny?  Did you wait until after your LO was born to search?  Did you use a service to find someone?

 TIA

Re: Another Nanny Hiring Question

  • Friends who use nannies have had success through Craigs List and www.enannysource.com.

I'm pretty sure you have to pay a "membership" fee to use enannysource.....but I have several friends who have found excellent nannies through this site. You can search by specific criteria and I *think* all of the nannies registered on this site have had background checks done on them.....

  • If I had one piece of advice.. do NOT use Craigslist. It was a nightmare. I ended up finding my nanny via enannysource.com. I was also looking at Care.com. They at least hold the nanny accountable to respond to emails and show up for interviews. There is a fee with them.. about $50. But they also have to be willing to have a background check and driving record check to be on the site.

I would start looking about a month to 6 weeks in advance. You can't really look like 4 months out because most of the people who are looking to nanny, need a job now and aren't going to be willing to be on hold till you need them. Unless you pay them...or they don't find anything else.  I started looking 3 weeks out. It was fast and furious, but my nanny was ready to start working then and there. You'll probably find some people who know their job is ending at a certain time.. like by the first of the year or by a summer type of break, but for the most part, they are looking to work as soon as possibe.

  • Took me 2 weeks of intense screening and interviewing.

    I found ours off craigslist.

I do recommend waiting until you have the babies.

Seeing them interact (or totally NOT interact) with the kids was a huge help in weeding out candidates who seemed GREAT on paper and very professional but showed no interest in the kids themselves.

    GL to you!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
