What did the hospital send you home with? Did you opt out of anything? I just moved to the Pittsburgh area and would appreciate your time! Thanks!

I didn't deliver there but I can ask some of my clients what they came home with. What kinds of things are you wondering about specifically and I can ask them. I'm very familiar with their policies and procedures during labor but not as much so with post-partum. I have someone who just came home yesterday so I'll ask her what she got sent home with.

I was just wondering in general. I have read several other posts and some of them come home with diapers, formula, breast milk pump accassories, blankets, etc.
Thanks for looking into it for me. We just moved here from a few states away and we don't know anyone yet. I really appreciate it!
THey do give you pump accesories which was great. At first most people hand pump.
They will give you a Similac bag. you also will get things to help you take care of yourself, like ice packs (if you have any tearing or unfortunately, hemorrhoids), pads, numbing spray. You can take receiving blankets, they are the best
I talked to one of my clients tonight and she said she did not come home with a pump or any pump accessories. She did come home with ice packs, pads, a sitz bath and some receiving blankets and of course the standard diaper bag with formula in it. She was having some breastfeeding issues so she came home with nipple shields that they gave her and some lanolin cream that they gave her. I think you probably need to ask for the hand pump that has the accessories with it if you want one. She has a relative that just had a baby at Magee and she came home with the numbing spray also but my client did not.
You also asked about opting out of anything. I'm not sure if you meant things like the eye ointment and the vitamin K but you can opt out of those things if that is what you meant. You have to sign a waiver but the client of mine that did it recently was not given a hassle by the nurses for not doing it.

Heres the list of things I came home with:
-hand-held Medela pump with all electric hook up accessories
-diaper bag from Emfamil with tons of coupons, samples, breastfeeding information, BM storage bottles
-peri ice packs, mesh undies, long pads, numbing spray, water peri bottle, sitz bath

I have nothing but awesome things to say about Magee, from their u/s department, high risk specialists and theur NICU.
When my girls were discharged from the NICU, we received about 2 dozen bottles of the premade neosure formula, tons of diapers, cream, receiving blankets, they basically cleaned out the girls NICU rooms for us.
For me, I received the pump parts, a hand pump, those uber sexy mesh undies heehee, a supplemental feeding system and some other odds and ends. I didnt get the formula bag, but I wasnt on a post partum floor which I think made the difference.
I personally only had one bad thing to say about the hospital in general and that was their parking rates that they charged for both my husband staying with me and then every day we had to go to the NICU.
Othere than that the staff and everyone there was amazing. They sent me home with formula, coupons, wipes, recieving blankets, all kinds of pump stuff and the normal stuff for yourself. They basically cleaned out the room for us and it was great!
They have special parking rates for NICU families! Oh I feel so bad for you if you had to pay the full rates, I would call and complain. Our girls were there for 12 days, that was expensive even with the special rates.
Once stuff is put in the drawers of moving crib the baby sleeps in they can't re-use it so its basically your's for the taking. I work at Magee. Ask for lots of stuff when your here. I don't think most things are handed out unless requested seeing as people would probably take lots of stuff they didn't need just because its free. Hope your experience here at Magee is as wonderful as mine was.
