Swaddle Frustration

DD is 24 inches and 12 lbs 11 oz. The small swaddles are for up to 12 lbs I think.  I noticed last night her small Swaddle Mes were really tight and I was paranoid about restricting her breathing so today I went and bought the Med/Large. Now those are for 13 lbs and up and it is too big and roomy. I see on the video monnitor her arms are already out. Ugggg

Re: Swaddle Frustration

  • We are in the same boat with DS.  He's 12lb14oz and 24 inches long.  We're still packing him into the small swaddle...the medium/large is just way to big to serve the purpose at this point.

  • for some reason the fleece one is still okay, little snug, but the regular cotton one was way too tight. I bought some extra large swaddle blanket too since the receiving blankets arent cutting it anymore, the feet poke out the bottom.
  • We don't use SwaddleMe's. I just bought some lightweight flannel from the fabric store, and cut it into 45 inch squares. I hemmed up the edges, and I have perfect swaddling blankets that will fit DS for a long time to come.
  • Why dont I ever think of these things?

  • We don't use the swaddle me, but we do swaddle in the carters recieving blankets and they still fit him well,(the only ones actually!), we double up on them, wrap one, one way and the other the opposite. Our LO is 23 1/2 inch and 12lbs and they are still fitting him. Just a fyi:)
  • DD is so difficult, wont sleep if not swaddled but kicks and busts out of it...lol

excellent idea!!!!! Now, if only i sewed at all. Did you hem the edges or fold and then sew it all around?

  • My DS is 13 lbs and 23.5 inches.  I bought the Large Kidopottamus swaddle and it has worked well.

I folded the edge over like 1/4 inch, then folded it over again 1/4 inch on top of the first fold and jut zipped down it with the sewing machine. I didn't iron it flat or anything. No sewing skills needed!

The fabric came in 45 inches wide, so I just asked the lady at the store to cut me a square. I hope this answered your question.

  • I am right there with you.  But first of all, you can't make a Swaddle too tight.  We switched to the Woombie for this reason, but he's not ready for it.  We put him back in the small SwaddleMe and it hits him an inch or two below his shoulders.  He's too tall for it (26 inches and 16.5lbs), but it works.  He's way too skinny for the large, so I know how you feel.

You could always try the Miracle Blanket.  We can't use it because DS is a wiggler.

  • We tried the swaddlemes and his arms get out no matter what size we use. We're on to those Aiden and Anais lightweight blankets now. They are huge, we wrap it around him a few times and so far so good. They have them at Target in 4 packs for like $30.

  • One more thing, we put long sleeved onesies on DS for swaddling. Friction is your friend :)

  • We dont swaddle. We havent for a while. We use a sleep sack and she sleeps great. We swaddled DS until he started to bust out of them and then switched to the sleep sack.
