Hi Girls. I found out on Monday at 9w6d that our pregnancy stopped progressing at about 5 weeks. I had no signs of a natural m/c, so I asked the dr for a d&c. She said the risk wasn't worth it since we weren't very far along and told me to go the Cytotec route.
Web research has me a little nervous about this. I trust my dr and am moving forward with this treatment, but would be interested in hearing any experiences to ease my concerns. Please note - I already took the first dose!
Thank you so much for your thoughts. I'm sad to be joining this group, but have always heard how wonderful you all are.
Re: Any experience with Cytotec
I took them orally. I'm assuming my dr would have mentioned if I should have taken them vaginally??? I actually already started to bleed.
Thanks for the advice on the pain meds. I appreciate your help!
I'm sorry for your loss. I had a very similar situation, a missed m/c at almost 9 weeks.
I took my cyotec vaginally, but you can also take it orally...your doctor would have told you if they wanted you to insert the pills. I would highly recommend taking the pain meds now, you will most likely have some pretty intense cramps. I wish someone would have told me about the pain meds, so I'm glad I can share that with you. I'm so sorry for your loss, but I will say that I have no regrets about cyotec...I'm glad I did it over a D & C. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers tonight.

Yes, I took two rounds of misoprotol (gen. for Cytotec) on the weekend of Sept. 12 and then again Sept. 17... both orally, second time letting it "melt" in side of cheek... as it was said this would go into blood stream quicker. Unfortunately.. neither time worked for me. There first round I was all prepared, ready "mentally" for it to happen .. so when I did not have the bleeding and other symptoms I've seen on this board.. it worried me.
Upon having another ultrasound on the 14th.. it was still showing just a gestational sac (At around 8weeks)... so they gave me the second dose.
I did start bleeding some clots last week.. but tests this week still showed I was not "passing" and my choice was to continue to wait... or do DNC.
I researched a lot.. was really nervous about the D&C.. I was trying to avoid at all costs... as reading on internet got me worried about the after effects of procedure... I read learned from my doc that I could continue to wait.. or take a 3rd round of cytotec.. but for me... I just was ready ... and even if I did pass naturally, a very good chance that I may still have to have D&C if I did not pass all tissue.
My husband and I lost our lfirst child (Little girl at 37 weeks in March, so I was really scared about doing the D&C.. wondering if it was going to be harder for us to conceive etc...)
but just had it done this am and I'm here it home resting fine. I really beli...eve I made the right decision.. and had an awesome Dr. who supported me. That was great.
I'm sorry for your loss and if you have other questions.. please just page me. I'd be happy to help! I had a lot of your same concerns.. and felt this board very helpful.
I am sorry for your loss and hope the cytotec is going ok. I took mine vaginally, started cramping/bleeding a few hours later. I had Rx pain meds, but didn't need them. It was like a very heavy period. The worst of the cramping/bleeding happened overnight (I took the pills in the evening). By the next morning, it had slowed to just spotting. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me, so after my follow up ultrasound a week later, I opted to go for D&C just to be physically done. My doctor offered me a second round of cytotec but said it doesn't work for that many people who it doesn't work for the first time, and I just emotionally wanted to be done. Good luck.
