I may be opening myself to a flood of NMS comments here. If you're tempted to post one, I'm going to lay myself bare and ask you to tell me what you don't like about it. We don't want to doom this kid, after all.
For the record, his middle name will be Lukas and his older sister's name is Kyan (like Ryan) Amelia. We go with unusual first names and safer middle names, just to give the kids a choice. My parents did the same for me, and I've always appreciated it, though I stuck with the unusual one.
We first heard Rilo in an NPR story about the band Rilo Kiley. We like how the two names sound together, and thought that Rilo and Kyan would be a nice combo.
Now for the fun leeetle poll:

Re: Is it the spelling or the sound? Friends and family don't love Rilo
I don't like the sound of the word. Plus, it is far to close to Rolo.
I would keep looking.

Yup. I don't like made-up names. I like the band though.
Thanks!
How funny that I forgot to give people an "I like it fine" option.

Where is the option for it is horrible?
Put my vote there.
Love your poll choices - thanks for having a sense of humor. Hate Rilo. It sounds as if you two couldn't decide between Riley and Milo and said "Hell, let's just name it Rilo."
IMO, It sounds like the name of a product, not a person.

Ditto. And I agree with pp that when Rilo and Kyan are introduced together people will remember that you have 1 kid name Ryan.
I agree.

Well, I happen to love it, since we are naming our daughter Rilo.! But I don't like names like Katherine and Emily and Grace, Faith, Hope and Joy like most people on these boards so take my opinion for what it's worth.
We've told our family members and they all love it, even the more traditional ones. I grew up with a name that was "different" and I didn't die a horrible death as people make it seem on here. But that's why I've never asked anyone's opinion on here, because frankly, I don't really care about their opinions. I say go for it if you like it!
Thank you for this comment. Exactly what I needed. It turns out (all attempts at humor aside) that my skin just wasn't thick enough for these comments. I am frustrated that we're getting odd responses from family, but my partner, daughter and I all love it.
Anyhow, thanks again for your comment. It made my day.
(I also sent the same as a PM so you'd see it. Sorry for the duplication.)
