Since my milk stopped we are having to start formula and DS is very constipated since now he has solid poops. My MIL said to give him 2 oz of water after every feeding to help with that... I didn't know this was okay. Do you give your LO water?
no, not without talking to a pediatrician. you need to talk to them about him being constipated though because you may need to change formula. babies that young shouldn't have constipation issues.

Yeah I would love to be able to take him to a Pedi right now... he still hasn't been to his 2 wk check up. We've had so many issues with doctors and our insurance... hopefully I can get him in sometime next week.

I was JUST going to ask this! We're having the same issues with our little guy...My mom said the same thing about warm water. I've actually been diluting his formula a little more and it seems to help. We're also using the gas drops after each feeding--or every other feeding--and then holding him on his belly. That has helped some also...Good luck!

We gave DS 4 oz of water with half a teaspoon of sugar mixed in yesterday to help with his wind. Contented Little Baby - Gina Ford recommends it and my SIL gave it to her baby when she was constipated. She said it worked wonders. It wouldn't be a regular feed so I don't see any harm in it.
Good luck!

I think the only reason its a no no is because it has no nutritional value for the baby. I wouldnt give it simply because it so thin and slippery they might choke.
Id call the pedi first.
Apparently your mom gave you water and your still alive so I cant imagine it would be "bad"....it just doesnt sounds that smart.
I have heard of this for constipation, but I would talk to the pedi before giving him any water

My nephew had lots of poop problems when he was little. Her pedi said to add Karo syrup to his bottle. No idea how much or how often so I would def wait till you get in to see the doctor and see what he/she says.
Our pedi recommended 2oz of apple prune juice diluted with 2oz of water to help with our lo's constipation and gas. She's 2 mos. old now...not sure if this would be the same for a younger baby? Does your pedi have a nurses line?
Poor O sometimes gets a nasty taste in his mouth from reflux (DH and I can smell the stomach juice- and O's face gets all twisted and unhappy). The pediatrician said we could give some water to help him get rid of the taste.
Re: Do you give your baby water?
This.
Water can actually be constipating.
