2nd Trimester

Anyone's pet acting different?

My cat is not affectionate- maybe after he's just woken up from a nap, but that's it.

He's still not affectionate, but he's been laying next to me on the couch more and walking across me on the couch.  When he walks across me, it almost seems like he's purposely stepping on my belly!

Anyone else notice different/strange/cute behavior patterns in their animals?

  • My non-affectionate cat has become very affectionate.  He now sleeps next to me, hopes up on my lap, purrs, and won't let me out of his site.

My other cat, no change.  Still an attention whore.

  • My longhaired chihuahua, Riley, loves to sleep real close to my belly now.
  • my cat who used to be very unaffectionate now has to be in my lap at all times and kneads the belly constantly, then puts his ear to it. It's the weirdest thing ever. My MIL didn't believe me until she saw for herself.
  • When my friend was pregnant and she has 2 cats both female, they wouldnt even come near here they were loving needy cats before the pregnancy. Her baby is a year old and the cats love the baby.

My sister in law had a persian when she was station at Fort Lewis and they had to get rid of it when she was 4 or 5 months pregnant it was a male. When ever she was in the same room as him he would randomly start attacking her she was covered head to toe in scratches.

My dog started marking recently I noticed. He has done that since we had him fixed in 07.

  • My dog has always been a clinger, but now he won't leave my side.  He's even gotten to the point of sitting outside the shower when I'm in there. Confused

I should add my dog is just as bad. Sometimes worse. She sits next to the tub while I shower and waits for me, whines if I try to close the door to pee, etc.

However our other cat (the non-clingy one) couldn't care less.

  • That is so weird!  My otherwise loner cat has been very cuddly and always wants to knead my belly and lay on my lap.  I can't believe others are experiencing the same thing.  It only started very recently.

My other male doxie that I had use to do that and then one day I turned around and he had jumped in the shower while I was washing my hair freaked the heck out me cause I didn't even hear him do it.

  • My dog has always been a clinger. He has to sit on my lap when we are on the couch etc.  I haven't seen any change in that aspect.

But he has been really sniffing my boobs lately, even tries to lick them!  I'm wondering if it's lactation or the hormone changes are giving off an odor??

  • My mini daschund has always been clingy but now hes not only clingy but very very protective! If dh even tries to move him to sit near me our dog will growl and snap.

  • my dog has always been very demanding of my attention, she would sort of growlbark or "talk" and whine until someone came over to pet her. Now she only does this with me. She still whines and everything even if someone else pets her, its got to be me! And she's more clingy. Has to be by me when I sleep, eat, play on the computer, make dinner, do dishes, anything! I swear it has to do with being pregnant and how dogs can just tell.
  • My dog Molly always slept at the foot of the bed.  Now she always wants to be lying right by my side, often with her head on my belly.  She definetly knows somethings there.  The other two dogs are clueless!!!
  • Me too.  I think my cat, Kashka, knew before I did. She would absolutely insist on sitting on my belly and would not get off of me for hours. Once, she literally pushed my laptop out of her way LOL

When I found out I was pregnant I realized that I think Kashka already knew :)

  • my cat has become a complete weirdo. So weird that i finally took him to the vet thinking he was sick or going insane or something. When i told the Vet that i was pregnant she immediately told me that that was why. Seriously, he has become more needy then any other cat i have ever had. He HAS to be held or pet whenever we're home, otherwise he does not stop meowing. He also started PEEING outside of the litter box. first on our bed, then all over the living room. he's neutered so he doesnt exactly spray, just digs on the carpet like its litter and pops a squat. he knocks over his food and water and makes a mess every single day. he's just a butthead. the vet says he can sense the change in me and that he needs extra love but its soo hard when he's being so difficult.

its honestly becoming a very big problem. we've had him for a year and love him to death but he's so needy now. he's gotten used to not sleeping in our room at night, or being allowed on the bed since he peed on it. there are so many stories of cats that smother infants while theyre asleep that we've had to train him not to sleep near us, which is probably part of his problem. but he likes to lay down on our faces so we're not taking any chances.

i'm so glad i dont have the only psycho cat around!

  • My dog alternates between wanting to be by me a lot, and being a stubborn mule and not listening well the rest of the time.

  • I love this post, it is making me laugh.   Plus I'm glad to know I'm not alone!  My two dogs won't leave my side.   The male keeps trying to sniff my boobs and it freaks me out.  I'm not sure what's up with that, but he never acted that way before.

  • When my golden retriever gets really excited she jumps up on people. (its a bad habbit & we have been trying to break her of it). She won't jump up on me anymore but will still jump up on my husband! She just looks up at me and sits on my feet. it is so cute!
  • We have started calling one of our cats the Bathroom Ambassador, since he CANNOT let me be on the toilet alone lately. He's scared of the flushing though, and always hightails it out when I go for the handle. When I shower, he waits outside the door, and while up until a couple months ago has been a total papa's boy, has begun coming to me for snuggles much more often. Our other cat will not leave me alone. She follows me around, has to lay next to me at all times and keeps trying to lick me. Very bizarre.
    So it goes.
  • When I was pregnant with my first, my little pomeranian dog became obsessed with me! Always snuggling and following me helplessly everywhere. The day the baby came out...bye bye. He was back to his normal self. Then with this pregnancy...as soon as the week i found out I was pregnant..he wanted to be my sidekick again. He won't leave me alone.lol It's adorable! Pets can definatly sense it. But my other dog doesn't, only him:)
