How much do you usually pay for DC's shoes? Most you pay?

I clicked on some of the links on the post below and wonder how often people shell out ~$50 for kids shoes?

DH unknowingly got sneakers for DS that light up and cost around that much and I made him take them back.  If we kept them I figured DS would go and have a growth spurt, wear them for 2 months and we would start all over again.

Am I the only one that can't stand to spend more than $20 - 25 on kids shoes?

  • I buy Converse at Gap when I have 30% off and/or reward(s).  That makes them less than $20.

The most I've ever spent was about $30 -- once on Nikes and once on Pedipeds.

I have a feeling DS2's feet are going to cost significantly more.  He has some FAT ones and none of DS1's shoes are working for him -- he'll be needing wides.

  • I try to spend less than $20 on DD's shoes.  I can get decent brands on Sierra Trading Post and sometimes at TJMaxx or other discount stores.

I did break down and buy some $53 dress shoes for a wedding a couple weeks ago because the bride gave me half a week's notice and I couldn't find anything reasonable in the stores because white shoes were out of season.

  • I'm with you. I am getting desperate to find DS a pair of shoes though. I would hate to spend $50 on my 14 month old for shoes since he will grow out of them so fast. But, he needs shoes!
  • No, I won't spend that much for shoes.  Mainly because he is in boots for so many months and then its summer and he is in sandals.  I recently bought him shoes at Marshall's for $13.77.  I won't pay over $25 for his shoes (boots are a different story.  I would easily pay $50 for snow boots.)

  • I did have to pay a bit more than usual for DD's shoes when she was 1st walking - 2 yrs because her feet were so wide.  Luckily we got good deals at stride rite.  We only did it for function - not fashion!

Of course, I did grow up with a dad saying "You only have one pair of feet, you only need one pair of shoes!"  Most of the time he was kidding.  ;)

  • I've been actually spending less than I used to. I try to get her Boots/shoes/sneakers under $50.

The sneakers I just got were under $40 and they usually last us for a while. Like she's still now wearing her sneakers that I bought in the spring.

  • For me, $20-$25 tops but usually prefer the $10-$15 dollar range. I'm lucky that I've never needed specialized shoes or anything for my kids and have always been able to get away with Target and Payless shoes.

  • I was thinking the same thing--- DS's daycare shoes are $15 from walmart. I don't care when they come home with play dough, paint, mud, gunk, whatever all over them-they were cheap.

He does have some "nicer" $25 tennis shoes, but that's the highest I'd spend.

  • sadly, i often have to pay $50+ for Griffin's shoes b/c he has super fat feet- and Stride Rite are some of the only shoes that fit him.  Every now and then I can find cheap shoes at Target or Payless that fit- but it's rare.

thankfully he's in some cheap shoes right now, from Payless, because he's PT'ing and ends up peeing down his leg sometimes :)  I didn't want him peeing in $50 shoes!

  • I spend around $40, as Nick has an 2XW foot & only Stride Rite carries shoes that will fit him. However, I will say that my boys each have one pair of shoes & a pair of crocs. That's it. I don't mind replacing them more often, as they are worn out, because they are wearing one pair until they either fall apart or grow out of them.

  • My DD has fat wide feet, so we have to get the Striderite wide and sometimes extra wide shoes for her.  50.00 a pop, and we usually have to get every two to three months.

  • I buy what I like.

If I can find them on sale, bonus. My kids are not hard with their shoes.

I usually buy then a few pair from Target and then some boutique brands that I love.

I sold 7 pair of DD shoes from last year at  $20.00+ a pair so to me knowing that I can get  back a little towards the new shoes makes it easier to shell out the money.

  • We usually spend 40-50$ a pair.  He literally has only 1 pair at a time, though.  No dress shoes or anything.

The reason I spend more is because it is really important to me that he has soft-soled shoes for another year or so.  I typically can only find toddler shoes with really flexible soles from higher end brands (See Kai Run, etc).

  • I have always had problem feet. I refuse for my kids to have problem feet, so I only buy them good quality shoes. Usually (but not exclusively) stride rite. I've paid anywhere from $12-$50 for them, depending on the sale at the time. I probably average about $35 or $40 per pair.

However, my dd's each typically only have 2 pairs of shoes at a time- one casual and one dressy. Plus a pair of winter boots- I don't spend much on those becasue they dont' walk/run a lot in them.

  • I aim for $20 or less. Usually much less.

I just hit a deal at the Stride Rite outlet, and found 4 pairs of shoes for $5 each. Two for each kid in sizes they will grow into.

The only times I have paid more than $20 was at Clark's. I got them on sale, and I had a gift card that covered the rest.

Same here and it sucks! Luckily, he's wearing shoes 6+ months now before he outgrows them, so he only gets a few pairs per year.

She's crafty - and she's just my type.
  • we usually do 30-45 because he has wide feet, so stride rite is really the only thing I can fit on his feet.   BUT I only buy 2 pairs for winter and 2 pair for summer.  always 1 pair of sneakers, and then in the summer sandles, and in he winter boots.
  • I try and keep it under $30. This year I got some good deals at Nordies anniversary sale. Her sneakers are usually New Balance or Nike from Kohls when I have a 30% off coupon.

This year she did get a pair of Merrell sandals and I'm so glad I spent the money on them because she worn them all.the.time. I think they were just more comfortable than her target ones.?

  • I usually try to spend no more than $20 to $30 for the younger kids.  They get much more expensive as they get older, though!  Our 14 year old DS's shoes are a bit more!
  • $15-30. I always buy nice brands at huge discounts. I regularly bought Ecco's at Nordstrom Rack for $19-$25 when DD was younger. I kick a$$ at finding quality shoes for rock bottom prices. That's one thing I won't compromise on is the quality of a child's shoe.

  • Usually $40+ per pair. I'd rather have only a few pairs of really nice shoes than lots of cheaper shoes.
  • Between $15 (Target) & $60+.  I just buy what I like & what they pick out--the cost isn't really something I pay attention to.  My DDs have several pairs of shoes & almost always wear them out before they outgrow them.  I can't imagine them having one 1 or 2 pairs--they'd be worn out/flithy in a month.  If they are special occasion shoes & hardly worn then they are passed down (good thing about 3 girls).  My MIL pretty much clothes all my children so I don't spend much money on that at all...so I have the flexibility to get what I want.  I think I am getting DD#1 some Lelli Kelly shoes for Christmas & those are $70 but she'll LOVE them so it's worth it to me.

  • I usually go for the cheapie BOGO deal at Payless when I buy the kids' shoes.  They go through them sooo fast.  So around $15 or so.  I will pay $35 for a pair of Crocs though...those things are fantastic (and I NEVER thought I would put my kids in Crocs!).
