Our experiences with Early Interventions so far.

Tuesday was Tyler's first day at playgroup and today was his first speech therapy session.  So far Tyler just loves it.  He had a great day at playgroup, really just caught right on, surprised me and the teachers.  It helped a bit that we already knew 2 girls from out meetup group!  We will see if it continues to go so well.  The first hour is free play and the next half hour is structured group activities like circle time, then snack time, then story time.  His speech therapy went well, she brought playdoh so Ty really enjoyed it.  The only thing she really said anything about was his S's.  She did however notice that he still uses a pacifier because his teeth are starting to move apart.  She said she runs into a lot of kids his age who use it all day, so I guess I don't feel so bad that he only gets it for sleep.  But I think I will be whining next week about trying to wean him from it.  She will only be coming once a week.  His special education teacher will come twice a week, but I haven't heard from him yet to set up times and get started.  Next week Tyler will also be evaluated by an occupational therapist to see if he needs their services.  And I haven't done the paperwork and set up the appt. for the special pediatrician yet, I have an appt with Ty's service coordinator to do that next week.  But I hear it takes about 6-12 months to get in!

So far, I have been very impressed with the EI services, except with the location of the special preschool which is why I chose the in home services instead.  And of course the best part is it is all free.  I would recommend having an evaluation done for anyone who may have concerns about their LO.  Our tax dollars at work!
