im sure this has been asked before, but...
i work in a small office (4 employees). my boss just asked me what my plans are for maternity leave (im not due till 4/24/10). she mentioned that since we're such a small office, i technically dont get any paid maternity leave. i heard something about a new law passed in nj, but i have no idea what it is..
does anyone have insight into disability? paid maternity leave? im new to jersey, and this is my first pregnancy, so im totally lost!
just trying to sift through all of this... thanks!
Re: maternity leave?
That sounds about right.
While a new family leave law went into effect on July 1st 2009 that allows employees to receive 6 wks PTO, companies with less than 50 employees are exempt from this law and sometimes even STD due to hardship.
Check out the state website and look under Family leave and temporary disability for more information. You can also call 609-292-7060 and speak with a live person. Unfortunately, you may have to use up your vacation/sick time. GL!

Check your pay check and see if your contributing to Short term disabaility through the state and FMLA. You should receive 4 weeks before and 6 weeks after at 66% of your weekly salary to max of 500 something dollars a week. However they don't have to hold your job open they do have to hold a job for you but, it might not be the one you are in now.
