Side Lying BFing position

Do any of you do the side lying BFing position?  Mal had a terrible night last night.  I had a migraine that I'd been nursing since 6 PM.  We got her into her crib so easily last night (a first...usually it takes an hour to get her down the first time).  Our luck didn't last b/c she was waking every 1.5 hours after that and nursing for an hour at a time plus another 20-30 min for me to get her back to sleep so I was exhausted.  By 3:00 AM I had her back down after a feeding and actually collapsed when I walked into our bedroom.  My husband had to help me to bed.  Between the headache, exhaustion, and all the energy she's nursing out of me I just fell over I guess.  So this morning when she only slept for 40 minutes at a stetch I tried the side lying position in our bed.  She was confused at first and kept pouting but eventually she ate and I rested then we both passed out for 2 hours!  She's still sleeping now and I was able to get up and eat breakfast and relax.  I think I'll do that more often after her 4 or 5 AM feeding!

  • Glad you found something that is working! I hope it continues to and that you can get some rest too! =)

  • I did with my 1st DS and it worked great. DS #2 just wouldn't have it.
  • I tried it really early on with DS and it didn't work that well so I sort of forgot about it for a long time.  Tried it again later one night when I was just completely exhausted and it was great!  DS gets what he needs, and I get some much needed rest.  Glad its working for you!

  • We co-sleep and started using the side lying position when he was about a month old. I have never felt deprived of sleep since using this position! It's great.

We could never quite get it right early on but I wish we could have. He was just small and my boob/nipple didn't line up right with his mouth even when his head was on my arm :(
