GHM and others with H1N1 experience

I had a low grade fever yesterday but today it's gone and I just feel like I have a cold.  DH says I have 'sicky eyes' (glassy).

I am just wondering if you felt anything the day before onset.  If the incubation period the NP said is accurate then today is the first day that I could get sick.  But I'm still hoping that I'm not going to get it.  Even though it seems impossible b/c I did nothing to prevent it.  By the time DS was dx'd I felt like it was too late to break out the lysol.

info online is so conflicting.

eta:  sorry for obsessing.  i don't even care if I get it (esp now that it's almost the weekend so DH will be around.  I am just sick of waiting and I've been stuck at home all week.

Re: GHM and others with H1N1 experience

  • I felt really nauseous and had a sore throat the day before the onset. From everything I've read, H1N1 is very different in everyone. My mom never had a fever, just felt like she had a really bad cold for a few days (followed by that lovely cough that I guess everyone gets afterward).

  • Thanks!  it is weird.  DS has diarrhea today now (day.. 4?).  No cough yet though.  My sister has a sore throat today (she was here this weekend from NY).  I had one yesterday.

    oh well.

  • we all had coughs the day before.  I felt a bit blah, but felt like I was getting a cold.  next day fever and blah times 10....I could only do what I NEEDED to do and then laid on the couch the rest of the time..  That only lasted 24-36 hours maybe.  And then the coughing went on....well I'm still coughing, but its getting better.

I thought I read somewhere that if you've gotten flu shots, the symptoms aren't as bad.....and for us it really wasn't horrible.  basically 2 days of crap, but then better.  And we always get the flu shot. (although if they mean the flu shot THIS year...we hadn't gotten that one yet.)

  • We don't get flu shots, and it wasn't THAT bad. I was miserable for a few days, but the kids weren't that bad off, DH wasn't that bad off, and my mom would never have known she had it if she hadn't been around 10 other people that ended up with it!
  • That is interesting about the flu shots.  I do typically get them!

  • GHM--I don't know how old your parents are..I'm guessing  younger than mine...mine just entered their 60's.....but I've heard that older people aren't affected because they have immunity.  We came down with it a weekend we spent wtih my parents at a wedding.  My kids were all over my parents the whole weekend.  And I sat next to my grandma at the reception blowing my nose all night (this was the day before when it was just a cough)....My parents and grandma didn't get it at all, and of all the poeple at the wedding THEY would have been teh ones exposed the most.  So maybe your mom didn't really get H1N1, but something else???  Who knows.  Its so weird.....not panic worthy, freak everyone out weird, but just weird.
