I had zero symptoms until I was 6 weeks. At that point I had stabbing pains in my abdomen and had difficulty urinating (my ectopic was on my bladder, not in my tube, but I imagine that the degree of pain would be similar - it was bad). The pain went away after one day, so I never called my doctor (stupid me), but then at my u/s at 6w3d there was nothing in my uterus.
I had to go right to the hospital for an emergency lap because of how far along I was.
I'm hoping that you don't have an ectopic, but I hope you do get some answers soon. Call you RE if you have any pain whatsoever. I learned that the hard way.

thanks for the info. I'm concerned about surgery if they find it's ectopic since I'm almost 6 weeks and I have damaged tubes already. At least I'll be prepared for the possibility. I'm sorry you had to go through that, it sounds awful.

hi i am so sorry to hear this.. yes I am sorry to say I have had experiences with ectopics. Two of them, 6 months apart. Both times I had no pain, the only thing I had was spotting brown then red... then of course i went in for the u/s and they saw it was in the tube.. Each time my hcg levels kept on rising and rising, very very crazy for an ectopic because they are supposed to NOT rise..well mine did, they got up to like 10,000 ...I had to do the methodextrate shots for each tubal I had, but the shots never worked my level never went down much.. SO I had to have laproscpic surgery both times and both of my tubes are now gone.. Keep in mind ,mine was so rare, that my levels got so high and then never went down.
I didn't have an ectopic, but went through something similar to what you're going through with slowly rising betas. My first beta was 66 and then rose to 119, 226, 406, 870, 1053. When they scheduled the ultrasound after the 870 beta, my ER said it was "very unlikely" it would be ectopic. At the ultrasound, they were able to see a sac in my uterus.
I'm sharing because with everything you are going through, it sucks that you are also stressing about whether or not you are having an ectopic pregnancy.
Good luck tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you. And again, I'm so sorry you are going through this.
Mine was very early, and is still considered a "suspected ectopic". I had no pain. I had bleeding, followed by very slowly rising betas (15, then 21, then 26, then only 100 a week later). They saw nothing on u/s (no surprise).
I'm so sorry for you. I just went through an ectopic. My biggest clue was dark brown coffee grind spotting. I'm really sorry for the TMI. I did have cramps. My numbers were doubling but my prog was very low. also, the betas were really low for the dpo. Let me know if you have any other questions.
So far we've done:
Clomid Challenge/HSG/SA
1 Unmedicated IUI
2 Clomid IUIs
2 Femara IUIs
1 injectable IUI
-2nd Femara IUI resulted in a CP (Beta was 16)
-Another CP in May. (Beta 19 Prog 13)
-Ectopic Pg - (Beta 27, 67, 430, 850) - methotrexate shot & biopsy
-Forced 3 month Break
1/4/10 - Uterine septum removed by Hysteroscopy
1/18/10 - Told I have inflammation in uterus. 6 weeks of antibiotics.
2/27/10 - Another confirmed ectopic. 2 shots of methotrexate after an ER visit.
Currently doing acupuncture and trying to lose weight.
TTC since 3/07 -
I am so sorry Monty. I had a suspected ectopic in Jan. It was very early on. They never could rule it out. My initial beta was low at 16, then it more than doubled 2x and then with the 4th beta it plateaued. If I remember correctly, in a 48 hour period it went from 700 to around 850. My RE at that time said when your initial beta is low, then jumps and then plateaus, that is often indicative of an ectopic. I had no pain or bleeding. They did 2 u/s to check for a sac but never did find one. They decided to give me methotrexate, an IM shot, to terminate the pg. It is a chemo drug and within 2 weeks I started bleeding. It has not been shown to have any long-term side effects. I was worried about it being a chemo drug but it was safe.
With methotrexate you have to wait 3 months to cycle again because the drug stays in your system that long. Good luck. I'm sorry you're going through this.

I have an ectopic in my cervix right now, along with a healthy pregnancy. We didnt see the second sac until my 8th week US, Since the HB stopped in the ectopic and its in the cervix I dont have to do anything. This could have screwed up my betas, they were similiar to yours, taking more then 72 to double. My RE also thinks I had another one that tried to stick and couldnt because I was bleeding for a week when I got the BFP. GL and lets hope you have more action in there then you think. I dont remember what you did but did you have more then 1 egg? I had IUI with 4 mature follicles.

I had a live ectopic in my right tube last year. I got my BFP and had slow and low non doubling betas, I went through the beta hell for 3 weeks. I never had bleeding, spotting, pains in my abdomen or anything related to an ectopic other then the tell-tale betas. I had the normal pregnancy symptoms of sore boobs and everything related to taking progesterone. At 7 weeks I went in for a scan and clearly saw the ectopic and heart beating in my tube. My choices were surgery or the shot and even with the shot, I could still risk ending up with an emergency surgery if it ruptured. I chose the shot because I felt the chances of it working were high and I didn't want to risk scar tissue or losing a tube at that time...and it worked for me. We took the required 3 month break from TTC since the shot depletes your body of folic acid and you can't take prenatals or folic acid until your beta returns to 0. It took 2 weeks for my beta to return to 0.
Let's hope you are not going through an ectopic. I am so sorry you are going through this though!
My situation was a little unique, because I didn't even find out I was pregnant till I was almost 6 weeks. (I had what I thought was my period right at the normal time.)
About 2 weeks after my "period" I had dark brown spotting that lasted a week.
Once we discovered I was pregnant, I had 3 beta draws. My #s only rose by 50% in 48 hours and they couldn't find anything on u/s. (But we don't know if they couldn't see anything on u/s because it was ectopic or if my fibroids were hiding the baby.)
I had the methotrexate shot on 6/11/09 and my HCG levels were negative (5) by 7/2. I had to go in for weekly draws and then take an HPT 7 and 14 days after my last blood draw.
Edited to add that I did have distinct pain on one side, but everything I read said ectopic pain was extremely painful, go to the ER pain. Mine wasn't. It felt like someone was pressing their thumb just above my right hipbone and not letting up.
I had an ectopic in December and my first sign was barely doubling beta's. Then I started to have pain on the left side of my lower stomach, I called the nurse and they sent me to the ER because they already kind of suspected an ectopic. Sat in the ER, they did an ultrasound and found nothing in my uterus, said that it looked like an ectopic but they couldn't tell yet and told me to see my RE the next day. Saw my RE, they tested a piece of tissue from my uterus to find out if the pregnancy was in my uterus or my tube, determined it was in the tube and gave me two methotrexate shots and sent me home. In the middle of the night I woke up in agonizing pain and DH drove me to the ER. My RE was called in and they did a laparoscopy to remove the pregnancy and I ended up losing my tube. Please keep in mind that my case is a little extreme because most ectopics are resolved with the methotrexate shots. Good Luck and I'll be thinking of you. ((HUGS))
After almost 5 years of ttc, 2 miscarriages, one lost tube and IVF, we were blessed with an amazing little boy!!

Really no symptoms. I did have some pinching on my left side, but it wasn't that painful and pregnant friends said that they had it too.
I hope its not what is happening with you. I'm sorry that you have to be on this rollercoaster.
