s/o: BF and STTN...and other ?s

so when our LOs do STTN, we will still have to get up and pump right? If i go longer than 3 hours my tatas become a hot, leaky, hard mess...i assume that as LOs get older, the boobs get used to going longer without a feed, right? also, do they ever stop leaking in between feedings? How do you wear a bathing suit in the summer if you have leaking still?

  • my mom said she never pumped - her supply just adjusted. i've found that to be true the longer DS goes between feedings and is consistent, i get less engorged. but each time he goes longer than usual, i still leak and get engorged, but i wear breast pads to avoid a mess.

  • I didn't pump and within the last 2 weeks I stopped being engored between feedings.

I wore a bathing suit a couple times this summer and didn't really worry about leaking since I was usually already wet from swimming. But if i wasn't...it's not like anyone would know the difference.

  • I don't know if this is considered STTN, but when DD goes for her long stretch (4-6 hours), I don't pump or anything (I actually don't own a pump). For the first while, I definitely got leaky, hard, and uncomfortable, but it seems to be a lot better now. I still leak a tiny bit, but not as much, and I'm not uncomfortable anymore when she wakes up. I'm thinking that pumping throughout the night would just keep the problem going because your breasts would keep making more milk... But I'm no expert!

I agree. Unless you need a huge supply. I pump before bed if I feel full and I'm confident that he's down for several hours. Overnight I only feed him from one side (he's usually only up once or twice) and then pump the full side in the AM.

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
