eating board books?

DS is so smitten with his books, and he used to enjoy LOOKING at them, but now he only wants to EAT them. I am looking for some more soft books (we have the sassy collection, but he is bored of them), but I also love that he LOVES books, and I am hesitant to take them away from him. Does this happen with your LO? How do you get him to stop, or is it ok to digest a little book now and then?

Re: eating board books?

  • Totally normal and age appropriate. I usually give DS one to chew on while I read another. I am a book finatic, we probably have over 200 for both kids, some are ripped, some are chewed, all are loved and read. I would not have it anyother way.

  • She loves to eat board books too.  She literally attacks them! One time she did take a chunk out of the corner and when I noticed I swiped the inside of her mouth and got it out, it was stuck to the roof of her mouth.  I try not to let her really eat them so I usually watch her when she's 'snacking' on one.
  • DD does this to everything.  I gave her the empty teething tablet container and she damn near got the entire label off.  She didn't eat it and as soon as I noticed I took it from her.

For now she gets the toy books that are fabric.  And plastic cups, she loves plastic cups!

  • DD loves to chew her books... I'm much more comfortable giving her a board book to chew on than something with real paper pages.  She hasn't really gotten any chunks of the books in her mouth so I'm not concerned.

This, just yesterday. I'll still keep them around, but I'll be a whole lot more vigilant when he's got them. I want to get some fabric ones, too.
