We have two cats at home, and in the last month or so one of them has began to pee on the couch/beds/clothes. This has never happened before (we have had both of them since they were kittens) so we had no idea which one was doing it. Well, last night I was laying on the couch covered up with a blanket, and the younger cat came up and peed on me!! I'm not sure if she was going for me, or just the blanket/couch, but I wasn't a fan either way. This cat has basically been my baby since we got her almost a year ago. DH doesn't think so, but I can't help but wonder if it is because of the pregnancy. I plan to call the vet later, just curious for you opinions!

Re: Can my cat be jealous of baby already??
I swear to you my littlest girl is jelous of the baby already! She's having more mood swings then normal and they ar all directed at me. I'm in the same situation of the fact that she was my baby ever since I got her too.
ANYWAYS, she's not peeing all over the place, and neither are our other two kitties. One of them tho used to pee everywhere. It turned out that he was 'blocked', meaning he had crystals in his urine blocking it from coming out. (When cat's pee somewhere other then where they are supposed to it means that they are in pain when in the litter box so they go to other places trying to see if that pain will go away. They aren't like dog's and mark their territory thru pee, cat's do it by RUBBING their sent on things or people.) Well we brought Lynx into the vet and he had to stay there for a few days (over a holiday weekend and emergency call...very expensive) and then I brought him home and had to give IV and meds for about a month and now he's on a special prescription diet...no problems since!
I'd say just bring ms. kitty to the vet. There is normally an under lying condition to peeing outside of the litter box. It could even be that there aren't ENOUGH litter boxes (you are supposed to have one more litter box then cats, so if you have 2 cats then 3 litter boxes) or that they aren't being cleaned out enough (every other day). Also, try going to pet smart and getting a pulg in hormone thing for cats...I can't rememerb the name but it WORKS!! It calmed our cats down BIG TIME. You need to replace it every 30 or 60 days and it's just like a 'plug it in plug it in' thing. You can't smell the hormones but it definately works for them. You need to nip it in the butt right away and pick up all clothes and blankets and EVERYTHING, even shoes (he peed in a couple of mine and I found out the hard way), so she has less to pee on.
Good Luck!
We started having the same problem about a month ago with our cat! I took her to the vet and they put her on antibiotics in case a bladder infection was causing the problem, but they also said that hormonal changes, stress or fighting between DH and I and any other perceived distress in the house might cause them to pee outside of appropriate spots. They said we could try a pheremone spray called fel-away that helps to calm stressed kitties.
In addition even though we only have one cat the vet emphasized the importance of having one box per cat, that does not have a lid (apparently this makes them feel trapped), and that is kept clean at all times (my husband is on this duty since I'm not allowed to do it, so I'm reminding him daily, just in case he's falling behind). Also, making sure to remove any trace of urine scent with an enzime cleaner each time the cat has an accident is important, so that they don't come back to that spot, recognize their scent and think they've found the right spot to relieve themselves.
With all these tips we've been incident free for two weeks. I hope that you get the problem sorted out, I know how frustrating this particular problem can be!!
We recently moved into our home from the apartment and when we started packing, we realized one of our three cats had been peeing all over our spare bed (unsalvageable btw) and one night I sat on our couch and got up to one wet leg(also had to throw out the couch).
I thought it may be because of the change in atmoshere or anxiety, but I took the one we thought had been the culprit and turns out she had a UTI. (Thankfully - my DH was ready to find a new home for her!)
Anyhow, one day at the vet, one shot, and 5 days later, she was allowed out of our master bath and back into gen pop, good as new!
Good luck!
I think it could be a jealously baby thing...here's why. We also have 2 cats and have never had problems with either until a few months ago. The youngest one started peeing in our living room. Most the downstairs is tile, but the living room is carpet (WAS carpet). We took her to the vet and $200 later was told it's just an attitude problem, nothing medical. Then we tried carpet cleaning with PURT (pet stain remover) (almost $200) and it did NOTHING, in fact, made it smell more. Soooo just last weekend we ripped up the carpet and the padding and now we have a concrete living room. We will tile it when we come up with more money.
In summary, she is a very sweet cat, and isn't spraying, but just peeing in that room all the time. We have 3 litter boxes and she uses them fine for poo, just not pee. So my only conclusion anymore is that she senses the baby/pregnancy.
Good luck with controlling yours!
