Convertible Carseats

In light of our earlier discussion on car seat carriers, DH and I decided it was time to purchase a convertible seat.  My arms are already thanking me.  What do folks recommend?  We are leaning towards Britax since they are on their fall sale (https://www.pennypinchingparent.com/) and I know they come highly recommended.  There are a few others we've highlighted from Baby Bargains as well but I was curious as to folks experience with the various options.

Re: Convertible Carseats

  • We have the Britax Blvd and Blvd CS based on reviews.  We use the car with the CS 90% of the time, but I really can't tell the difference between the CS and regular Blvd.  I wish the seat strap between her legs was longer so I could pull it forward when putting her in the seat (always have to pull it out from under her), but other than that the Blvds are nice carseats.  They seem comfortable and sturdy.  Haven't used any other kind though to really compare.

  • I have 6 Britax, 2 Roundabouts and 4 Marathons. I love them, I also have 2 Costco Secrenas for the sitter. The Roundabouts are much smaller and I can tell will be outgrown much sooner than the Marathons. Wish I had just gotten all Marathons. The quality is fantastic, easy to install, the kids like them. There are other options that are cheaper but I have never heard one complaint from Britax owners.
  • We have 2 Britax Marathons and love them.  They also go up to 65 lbs, so you really can get your use out of them.
  • We have 2 marathons and 2 roundabouts.  The roundabouts are definitely smaller and when we install the new Marathons, Maggie will move to those and Molly will inherit the Roundabouts so I would suggest going Marathon or up from the beginning.  I always found the best deals for the sale at albeebaby.
  • We also love our Britax, but have a less common one - the Diplomat. It has all the side impact protection, but is more compact for smaller cars. We're able to have it rear-facing in the middle in my Honda, for instance, and still have room to put both seats all the way back. DD loves it and is really comfortable.

  • well, i will stand up and say i do not have a britax.  we have the Graco ComfortSport and LOVE it!  our little man is happy in it and it's safe.  also a good price, if you use walmart's ship to store option there is no shipping fee (which is what we did).  beware if you do that though, it doesn't come in a graco box.  it's easy to install and we can move it back and forth between cars easily.  i can't say enough good things about this car seat.

  • We have the Evenflo Triumph LX.  I love it, it is just as highly rated as a Britax, and is 1/2 the price.

It looks big, but I can fit it in my 2003 Corolla with no problems.

  • We have the Britax Roundabout 50 and love it.  It's the same price as the regular Roundabout, but holds up to 50lbs and 49in.  I think Britax is the only car seat with a Rear-facing tether so the back of the seat doesnt flip up in a collision.
  • diapers.com is having a sale on Britax (some are $80 off).

  • Another vote for the Evenflo Triumph--came out the same on safety tests as the Britax and as the PP noted, it's 1/2 the price.  We bypassed the infant car seat and have used this since day 1.  I love the adjustable straps--very easy to loosen and tighten as needed.

We also have the Graco ComfortSport and it has been good so far!  The straps are super easy to adjust and get DS in and out.  The price and safety ratings can't be beat.
