Recipe help

I am going to make Crockpot apple cake...it was a recipe I got from here..but it specifically states jiffy yellow cake mix only...I can not find it anywhere!... Im fixing to try one more store...If not is there any  other cake mix that would substitute just fine?

Re: Recipe help

  • I'm sure it doesnt have to be jiffy brand. Any yellow cake would do just fine. If you can't find yellow, maybe substitute a spice cake?

  • I was thinking the same thing but I know that jiffy cake mixes come in smaller boxes than normal cake mix so would it be too much cake mix in the crockpot? Maybe I could just measure out however much comes in the jiffy box from another yellow cake mix...i think thats what i'll do!....thanks :D
  • IDK if this helps, but it's on the shelves with the flour in my grocery, not with the regular cake mixes. I wrote down that recipe too, and it seemed pretty specific about using jiffy. I think the jiffy boxes have much less mix in them than regular cake mixes, so that might make a difference.
  • Yeah ..I found there lemon cake mix but not yellow!..and then they had there muffin  mixes also along with cornbread...I will make this work someway..because there is a smaller amount of cake mix in jiffy
  • Suggestion:

Because of the size of a Jiffy mix, I wouldn't substitute with typical cake mix. I'd use a muffin mix or quick bread mix in a complementary flavor, like cinnamon or applesauce. Size should work, and flavors wouldn't be a jarring difference like lemon.

  • Thanks!!... I found Jiffy yellow cake mix at the smallest little store in town! Thanks ladies!.. And crockpot apple cake is going now I am anxiously awaiting the aromas its going to fill my house with!
