Last night after Ava's bath she was sitting on the floor in just a diaper and I noticed she was looking bluish, particularly on the bottoms of her feet. I thought to myself "oh she must be really cold" because she didn't have any clothes on, but then when I felt her she was actually really warm. I took her temp and it was over 100. At this point, her breathing sounded fine. She wasn't coughing or anything. I just gave her some Tylenol and put her to bed and didn't think much else of the blue feet. She has been sleeping fine all night, but I woke up an hour ago and went in to check on her. She was a little fire ball. I woke her up to take her temp--102.6 and she has the worst cough. I'm pretty sure it's croup because she was around my nephew on Monday morning, and later that day he started showing symptoms and his pedi confirmed it was croup. Anyway, I know that it's typically pretty mild and treatable, but the bluish skin and trouble breathing that she is having right now is what concerns me. I feel like I should take her to the hospital for this, but at the same time I would rather avoid this because it's such a germy place, it's flu season and her immune system is already down. I'm just not sure if it's a good idea to wait on this or not. She's not gasping for air or anything like that. It's more like delayed. I don't know how to describe it. Anyway, I just gave her more Tylenol and fluids and she's sitting on the couch watching Caillou. She seems pretty calm and will even laugh at the show every now and then. Do you think it's okay to just wait until the pedi's office opens?

Re: Trouble breathing and bluish skin?
We can't get in until 11.
The upside though is that she didn't think it was too urgent and it was okay that I waited.
Hope everything is okay.. FWIW the 4 yr old I nanny for had the same symptoms and tested positive for H1N1. Started tamiflu and was significantly better within 24hrs.
Good luck!
