Drying rack, sterilizer, dishwasher basket?

What are you actually using when you clean bottles now that your LO is here?

TIA

Re: Drying rack, sterilizer, dishwasher basket?

  • I use a drying rack, and that's it.  Once DS gets bigger I will use a dishwasher basket for sippy cup lids and the little plastic inserts and for his little forks/spoons.  for sterilizing I boil water in a pan.  I mostly just sterilize new things and then every once in a while as I feel needed.

  • Hand wash in warm soapy water, put in sterilizer, place on clean dish towel when done with sterilizer.

Haven't used the dishwasher basket or drying rack once.

  • I use the dishwasher basket and let the bottles, nipples etc completely dry on the drying rack before filling with water (which just sit there at room temp until I dump the powder formula in at each feeding). No sterilizer for me.

    This.

  • Just the drying rack.  I handwash my bottles and throw them on the rack.. simple!

  • I've just used the cheap drying rack that I bought.  I have a dishwasher basket, but have only used it once to wash pacis.  I sterilize once before use in boiling water but thats it.

  • Just the dishwasher basket. I use drop ins and put the nipple rings in there and put them in the dishwasher along with the bottles. I boil the nipples on the stove every time (I found that was just as fast as a sterilizer and used less water than the dishwasher). I don't watch the bottle and nipple ring every time I use them.

  • I have a small plastic tub that I use just for LO's bottles, nipples, paci, etc...After I wash I put all the items into the sterilizer (4 mins in the microwave) and than I put all the items on a spinning dry rack (really handy).
  • With my 1st I hand washed EVERYTHING! My hands actually started bleeding since they were in hot water all of the time.. Well Then I discovered the dishwasher basket!! Its the best invention ever! The water gets much hotter so it is actually sterilizing. I found the generic baskets at Babies"R"Us work the best.

So save your poor hands and put them in the dishwasher!

  • Amen! My hands are already dry and cracked from washing them all of the time (I work in the school system and it's cold and flu season). I save myself the trouble and use the dishwasher baskets and the spin and dry rack!!!
  • I use the drying rack all the time since I hand wash the pump parts and bottles.  I only pump once a day in the morning and only use the bottle occasionally.  But I throw all the pieces in the dishwasher basket about once every 10 days or so even though I hand wash after each use.  I just feel it cleans it better if I miss any where.
  • Hand wash with hot soapy water then put them on a drying rack.  I use Medela sterilizing bags once a week to do his bottles, my pump stuff and his pacis.  If our dishwasher happens to need running, I throw the bottles in the dishwasher basket.

  • I use the drying rack every day, the sterilizer maybe once a week, and the dishwasher basket is in a cabinet, totally unused. I've found washing by hand with a bottle brush is much easier than bothering with the dishwasher, especially since I don't run dishes every day.

  • I only use the sterilizer.  I wash the bottles, pump parts, pacifiers, ect by hand, and than put them directly into the sterilizer.  ((I don't have a dishwasher))
  • mostly hand wash everything and run through dishwasher if I run dishes, just dry on paper towel or put together
