I just can not get what happened to my sister out of my head. I posted a few days ago about men breaking into her house while she was home. Well, I have not been able to sleep well since, my tummy is all torn up and during the day when I'm here with just Caleb, I feel so on edge and paranoid that someone is going to break into my house. I can not stop thinking about what happened. I keep re-playing the whole thing over and over in my head and imagining how my sister must have felt...so terrified and helpless. You can imagine that if I'm feeling like this, how she is feeling. She can't sleep at all and refuses to stay home during the day. She spent the day here yesterday and today she is just out wandering around from store to store.
She went to the police dept again today and they told her they think they caught two of the men (there were 3 working together, although only 2 were in her house). They asked if she could identify the one who was left and she pointed out who she thought it may be. The cop told her that he is who they thought it was too and that he is very dangerous. He broke into another house recently and there was a 14 year old girl home alone. She was laying in her bed with the cops on the phone and acting like she was sleeping and this man held a gun to her head and said, "If you look at me, I'll kill you".
Speaking of guns, I think I'm going to have Jim take me to the shooting range so I can learn to shoot ours. Guns scare me to death, but if I were in the situation that my sister was in, I would feel much better if I had a gun in my hand and knew how to use it. My other sister sleeps with a loaded gun next to her bed at night!
Anyway, all this evil stuff just freaks me out so much. I keep praying for protection and safety and I know that we are all probably just fine...I guess it will just take time to start to forget about it. I feel so sorry for my sister though. They are putting their house up for sale ASAP. Maybe she'll feel better after they move.
Re: I am so freaked out and paranoid!
It is a scary thing to happen. My house was broken into last year at Xmas, they kicked in the back door. Just knowing that they had been in our house looking and touching things gave me the creeps. Also they stole my dig camera, so to know they were looking at the pics freaked me out. Also you just go over in your head what could have happened, I was pregnant, they could have shot me or done bad things to me, I didnt go right back outside when I called the cops(we think they were still in the house when I came home) etc. I hope you are able to calm down and glad that your sister is at least safe.

Monica, I know exactly how your're feeling and how you're sister feels. My office was robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight. The man walked right in, right around the desk and straight for the petty cash drawer. He pulled a gun on my mom (who worked the front office) and told her if she didn't sit down and shut up he'd shoot her. Well the guy failed to realize that I was in my office just right down the hallway. He never came down the hall, so when I realized what was happening, I called 911 from my office. He made off with $2500 and her purse. Since then we've beefed up security with an alarm and installed video cameras. Also, no more "open door policy" It was definitely a rude and scary awakening.
DH and I live in the country where the nearest police is probably 12-15 miles away. We've had breakins out in our neighborhood within the last year or so. Well after all that happened with my work and the neighbors getting their houses broken into, DH went out and purchased a shotgun to leave at home. In all honesty, I was hesitant at first, but after learning to shoot it properly I feel really safe. I would HIGHLY recommend getting a shotgun. A handgun is very hard to aim if you're not in close range and can be easily taken away from someone who isn't familiar with it. With a shotgun, all you've gotta do is aim in the general area of the person and you're bound to hit them.
Sorry this is so long. HTH
I have thought a lot about your sisters story since you told it. I can only imagine how she must be feeling!
I hope she is able to find peace soon.
Monica, I never had a chance to respond to your other post, but I am so sorry to hear what happened. That is DEFINITELY really scary.
Do you have an alarm? If so, I highly recommend it. You can set it so that there is a 'Stay' function where the motion sensors are not activated but the door/window alarms are on. I keep ours on when I'm home alone and it gives me piece of mind.
Guns scare me and I don't want them in my house. I think that having a gun is useless unless it's constantly loaded and I think having it unloaded or locked in a safe defeats the purpose of having a gun and not having it in a safe and loaded scares me with kids around... such a catch 22.
Can I ask if this sister is the one close to me? or somewhere else?
I am so sorry! It would scare me to death too! Hopefully they will find the 3rd guy soon so that your sister can have just a little peace.
after anovulatory diagnosis and TTC for 1 1/2yrs with several medicated cycles and one chemical pregnancy, we have our first bundle of joy!

I don't take one single minute for granted.
Our new house has an alarm and I am so glad. If we were staying here, we'd be getting one put on this house. Just a few more weeks though...
Yeah, guns freak me out too and I agree they are totally useless if locked up somewhere or not loaded. Ours is loaded, but is in a place where neither kid can reach it...even if they get on a chair they can't reach it. Haley is old enough to know to stay away from it anyway. I just need to learn to use it now.
It was my other sister...not the one who lives near you.
