Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Anyone else have really bad luck with Luvs diapers?

Since we moved from Swaddlers, Ben has been in Baby Dry.  I really like them and have never had a problem.  However, the last time that I was in BJ's, I noticed that Luvs are a full $10 cheaper than Baby Dry for almost the same amount...and they're made by the same company, so I figured they would be ok and bought them.

These are the worst freaking diapers I've ever used.  At least a dozen times in the last week (and 4 times today), when I go to change Ben, the stitching that holds the two layers together has come undone and that disgusting gel crap was all over him and wound up all over the changing pad, floor, etc. Today was the final straw, I threw out the final 20 (or so) diapers that I have.  I'm currently filling out a form on their website to tell them how unhappy I am.  Who knows if it will do anything, but it's making me feel better about wasting $30 on a box of shiity diapers.

Anyone else have anything like this happen?  Just curious.

  • My LO got a bad rash the first time we used Luvs. They suck.We stick to Huggies now.

  • We love Luvs! Smile We have been using them since DS was about 9 months old and have never had a problem with leakage except for the one time I went up a size because I thought the 4's were getting too tight on him. But I've never had problems with the stiching, etc. I actually wrote a letter to Luvs telling them how much I loved them and they sent me two coupons for $10 off! Big Smile

I wonder if it was just that box. Maybe try buying a small pack?

  • Never had gel leaks with them but always seemed to have more pee leaks with them.
  • We didn't have that bad of an experience with them, but they didn't really work for us. We had lots of leaks.
  • We hate Luvs. They're awful.
  • We had the same problem with the gel part leaking.  They also always seemed to smell more than other diapers I've used.  It was too bad, because they were cheap and fit DS well.

If you're looking for a different, cost-effective diaper, you could try Up&Up.  They fit DS as well as Luvs, are actually cheaper, and don't leak gel.

  • We didn't like them too much when we tried them with my older DS when he was a baby, but we use them for my younger DS now, and they work pretty well! We've never had any of the gel stuff come out, and the only time we had a problem with leaks was overnight when it was time to move up a size.

Same here. He never had such a bad diaper rash until we tried luvs. Huggies or Pampers for us.

I was wondering if I just got a bad batch or it was some kind of flaw in the design or something.  Maybe I'll try the Up&Up...thanks!

  • Never had any problems like that. We have used Luvs religiously since 3 months or so.

Me three.  We also use either Huggies or Up and Up from Target.

  • I have been using them since she outgrew swaddlers and I've never had those problems. She has started peeing out of them at night, but not by much. This pic was a luvs diaper, and the gel in it didn't break until my cousin threw it. She'd been on that water slide for 20-30 minutes. I hope they compensate you for that pack, that really sucks.

  • I liked luvs but I LOVE the Up & Up from target.  I recomend them to every mom I know.
  • For the most part we love Luvs!  A couple months ago I had purchased a box that had a few rip while I was putting them on DD.  I sent them an email explaining how much we usually love their diapers and that I hoped their quality control wasn't being overlooked and they sent us a couple coupons for quite a large amount of money off.   We haven't had a problem until this last package.  We have gotten a few more that rip while putting them on.  We have never had any leak or have gel come out.  I'm hoping that this just may be a bad batch we've gotten again.

  • My bff has used Luvs for years and loves them. She got one box that seemed to be faulty and the stuff in the middle came out, but she called the company and they sent her some $10 off coupons. I tried them for DS but the 'scent' made his butt break out really bad. I had only used Huggies but wanted something cheaper so I tried Target's Up and Up and I LOVE them. I actually prefer them over Huggies now, and there is no scent, which is good for DS!!

  • Until recently I have used Huggies but switched to Luvs because of the price. I am very happy with Luvs. They haven't had any leaks for me yet.

  • I was singling Luvs praises on here a few months ago.  For about 2 days.  After that, the occasional leak was waaaay more than occasional, so I kicked them to the curb.  We're Huggies fans.
  • That stinks. We really like luvs.

  • We had horrible leaks/ blow-outs with Luvs that we have never had with Pampers. We bought one box, then switched right back (and ended up throwing out a bunch of diapers).
  • The gave S a really bad rash, and I think they have a very strong perfumey smell (probably what gave her the rash).  I won't be buying them again.
  • My DD is another one that got a really bad rash from Luvs.  She also gets one from Huggies - Pampers are the only ones that seem to work for her.  After reading this thread, though, it sounds like maybe we should try the Target Up & Up brand.
