insurance question..help

So my HR manager in AR (I'm in CA) stated I get 6 full paid weeks of maternity leave after LO is born & this is through FMLA.

She knows nothing about our benefits here in CA... neither do I.

Can I file for State Disability Insurance ?? I have heard that they pay 4 weeks before LO & 6 weeks after LO.

now I confused, anyone know anything about this ?

  • Do you pay into STD?  You can probably find out through your payroll if you don't know.  Here's a link for eligibility.  HTH

  • If you have been with your company over 12 months and you pay into state disability, then yes, you are eligible for 4 weeks before and 6 weeks after delivery (8 weeks after for a c-section).  However, it is not necessarily at full pay - that is determined by your company.  The state will pay a maximum of 55%, but it is based on your salary and there is an overall cap, so if you make over a certain amount, you won't get the full 55%.  Some companies choose to subsidize and pay you an additional portion or your full pay.

You are probably also eligible for baby bonding time (CFRA).  This is an additional 12 weeks of time off, though not necessarily paid.

This. The 4 weeks off before is awesome and it's "use it or lose it" meaning you cannot tack it onto the time after LO is born. I say use it...or at least part of it!
