I have silicone dryer balls that take away static and help the clothes dry faster by breaking things up as they bounce around in the cycle. They've saved me money and are better than throwing out dryer sheets each load.
I guess that makes sense, since they sit in your dryer and soak up some extra moisture
Ours are plastic, so I don't think they soak up any extra moisture. I'm pretty sure they help the air circulate better. We use them because dryer sheets have a lot of chemicals on them and we don't want them on our clothes. Plus, it saves tons of money.
something else that you can use in place of dryer balls and that are a little cheaper are tennis balls. I was an avid dryer ball user and somewhere in the midst of moving, we lost them and my MIL suggested using tennis balls since we were having trouble finding the dryer balls
