2nd Trimester

2 Boys sharing a room?

I will have a 23 1/2 month DS when our 2nd DS arrives- and we plan on keeping him in our bedroom for the first few months- Do you think sharing a room is a bad idea-with 2 young children? If any of you have done this can you give me some pointers/ideas about transitioning- I'm just scared that we will have 2 little guys up all the time- ruining each others sleep times!

  • I shared a room with my brother until we were 5...

  • Until I was 5 and he was 2.
  • my nephews are 4 and 8 and have always shared a room.  i think when the youngest was smaller, they kept him with them in their room at first, but they share pretty beautifully now.

  • Back when we were kids, almost everyone shared rooms with siblings.
  • My son is a little older than yours but we plan to do the same. When the new baby is sleeping for longer stretches they can share a room,  but having two up at the same time at night would be too crazy.

  • my nephews share a room.  they are 5 & 16 months old.  My 2 nieces share a room also, they are 9 & 7

  • My girls share a room and have since DD#2 was about 4 months old and DD#1 was about 2.  It works out great for us.  They adore each other.  DD#2's first word was DD#1's name.  We started DD#2 napping in there around 10 weeks or so, I think.  I honestly, can't remember.  We moved DD in there and she wasn't STTN yet so I was worried.  Honestly, yes, it took a few nights for them to get used to each other's "night noises" but after that, they didn't wake up for anything.  Seriously, we even did CIO with DD#2 in their room to get her STTN.  We did CIO in another room a few times, but every time we moved her back in their room she'd start waking up again.  DD#1 only woke up once the first night and yelled at DD#2 to be quiet, but never even heard her after that.  Seriously, it's not that big of a deal.  Now, both the girls pop up like nothing if I even walk into the room to check on them, but they can and will sleep through the other one screaming.

FWIW - We actually have four bedrooms, but I'm a WAHM so one is my office.  The other is our guest room.  It's almost as big as our master and most of our family is OOT.  It didn't make sense to us to give DD#1 that huge room and lose our guest room when she wasn't even two.  The girls will share that room (assuming we don't move) when the new baby comes (or rather before the new baby comes so we can move them early).

  • My BFF has two little girls who's birthday's are 6-17-04 and 2-1-06 and they have shared a room together since day one

  • My brother and I are almost 3 years apart in age. We never had to share a room, but we were really close so we ended up in each other's rooms most of the time anyway lol.

We definitely stayed up late and my parents were usually screaming "you two better go to sleep or you will be seperated!!!" We would just giggle and pretend to sleep until we eventually did fall asleep. I'm sure it drove our parents crazy, but it wasn't bad enough to actually make them seperate us.

  • My family had a 3 bedroom house. I have 2 brothers and a sister. My brothers, who are 5 years apart, shared a room until my older brother went to college. My sister and I, who are 4 yrs apart, shared a room until I went to college. There is nothing wrong with siblings sharing a room. I think it bonded us more. I remember the many nights my sister and I would stay up talking about school and boys.

  • I plan on keeping LO in my room for either the first year or until I can't stand it any longer, and then move him into my 3yr old DS room. I think once he gets past the inital part of having someone else in the room every night  we shouldn't have any problems. On top of that DS is totally excited about getting bunk beds, he's a bit of a monkey =)
  • I shared a room with my sister for like 8 years. It was nice having someone in there at night.
