hey ladies. how much weight per week or month are/were your LOs gaining around 5-6 months? M&D have slowed down a lot (M mostly due to MSPI, which is now being addressed - i feel awful it took so long to figure it out, but D's is unexplained.) i'm starting to worry a bit about my supply. also they are both suddenly waking up MANY MANY times a night. i'm just a little concerned.
thanks ![]()

Re: weight gain in BF babies?
DS' weight gain has slowed down from 4 to 6 months. He went from around 30th percentile to 22nd percentile. We just started solids so hopefully that will help. I think it is common for BF babies to slow down compared to FF babies in later months.
"Research from the early 1990's demonstrated that breastfed and formula-fed babies have different growth patterns. The most significant differences are that breastfed babies grow faster than formula-fed babies in the first few months, and then "lean out" compared to formula-fed babies between 3 and 12 months. "
Kiddo's weight has slowed a lot - he started out 75th; dropped to 50% by 6 months and was down to 25th by 9 months. Pedi wasn't worried at all and said by 9 months, genetics takes over in determining size (I was really little as a kid). I think the night waking is developmental as well - kiddo started waking more between 4 and 5 months. It's like they are more alert and want to check everything out. Plus their motor skills are improving rapidly and they want to practice!
Could you go to a LLL meeting or and LC and have them weighed before and after feeding? If they are having normal pee and poop, I wouldn't worry too much - although I know that's hard to do!

This, plus I bet they're starting their six month growth spurt.

i didn't know this - wow - thanks so much!!
i do think a growth spurt could be in play as well. and anna you made me feel a lot better with your plateau story! ncbelle - it might be worth seeing my old LC for a weight check just to ease my mind. thanks for the suggestion!

I found the article below, from kellymom, to be helpful when I was wondering about baby weight gain:?

I think it is really normal to see a slowdown. ?Also, birthweight is largely a product of maternal factors (prenatal diet, etc), so sometimes babies take a few months to settle into their own spot on the growth chart. ??
DS gained at least 3-4lbs every month. 21-24lbs at 5-6 months. He was always off the charts for his age but is now in the 95% for both weight and height. The pedi said he's going to be a big person so he was a big baby (as in build and height not fat but solid).
The Lo could also be going through a growth spurt.
