How do you ladies drink coffee?

I was tired this morning, and went to Starbucks for a little 'pick me up'.
I am not a daily coffee drinker, and have it maybe 4 times a year.
One tall white mocha frappicino later, and I'm talking 100 mph in my morning meeting, hands shaking, jittery as all get out, and a headache once the buzz crashed.
Makes me wonder: Was it worth it? And-- how do you coffee drinkers do it?!

Re: How do you ladies drink coffee?

  • Caffeine has never affected me to that degree - I used to have a latte at our college coffee shop when I was studying and I could fall asleep 10 minutes after I was done with it if I was finished for the night.  The answer to your question - I drink coffee religiously.  That's how.

  • Yikes!  Do you drink caffenine at all in other things?

Quite honestly not drinking it would cause that stuff for me.  I went through bad caff withdrawal when I got my BFP.  I weaned myself down for a week but I had HORRIBLE headaches for a week or two from it.  It was worse than m/s I think.

Me too.  My body is used the caffeine buzz, I guess!

    Cheers, papagena! Coffee

  • Nope, don't drink it.  I actually do Orange Juice in the morning.  The sugar helps me get awake and there is no buzz crash later.

  • I drink a LOT of caffeine daily.  My body is used to it so I don't get jittery or my heart rate doesn't race.  At least now if I don't have it I don't get headaches like I used to.

I drink a quad Iced white chocolate mocha almost daily.

  • Yup -- practice!  I have to say, though -- the sugar in a frappacino like that would have given me a headache.  I can't handle sugary drinks.  The caffeine?  No problem:-)

  • I used to be an avid latte drinker and then I switched over to reg coffee. I used to drink it because it was something to help hold me over until lunch but when I tried to stop when I was PG I crashed big time and I realized how much it helped me wake up in the AM. Now when I drink a latte I do get a bit jittery but they are soo good. I love the taste of coffee and its part of my daily breakfast. But the headache is the withdrawl symptom of it being flushed from your system.

Hmmm. Maybe it was the sugar.

I only drink water all day, and have caffeinated beverages (pop, ice tea, etc) as a special treat.?

That's what I SHOULD be doing.  Instead, I have a case of diet soda under my desk.  Yikes.

  • I drink my coffee black.

Starbucks coffee is super strong to me and tastes terrible black, imo. Everything else that they offer has too many calories to make a trip there worth it.

  • I have been a coffee drinker for probably 15 years now and never go without my morning 'fix'.  I buy Starbucks or Trader Joe's coffee and make it at home.  It doesn't have that kind of effect on me and never did.  I guess maybe just because you're not used to it is why you had such a reaction.  I also don't like/don't drink those kind of drinks from Starbucks (only the Pumpkin Spice latte), so I have no idea how the caffeine content stacks up to regular plain old brewed coffee.

Ah...I see. My guess is the drink I had was loaded with sugar. It did have the whipped cream on top as well. ;)o?

  • I drank coffee very sparingly until about 3 months ago.  I can't live without 4 or 5 cups a day now.  Probably because I drink so much I don't have those symptoms.

I hate Starbucks though and would never get my coffee from there if I had a choice.

  • I have at least 1 cup of home brewed coffee every morning. I can't wake up properly without it :(

When I was working I had Starbucks on the way to work every day and then again later to keep up with the afternoon crash lol. Venti pepermint mocha, non fat, no whip with an extra shot. I never get the jitters!

  • The caffeine in coffee doesn't usually have a significant affect on me, and my body is definitely used to that one mug a day.

However, I do feel your pain. On very rare occasions, the caffeine kicks my system into hyperdrive and I am a wreck.

  • I drink one travel mug or 2 regular cups a day.  A little splenda and french vanilla creamer, and I'm set.  Not having it causes not adverse affects, I don't think I drink enough to have to "wean" myself off.
  • Actually I remember from being pregnant (and paranoid about caffeine intake) that there's very little caffeine in the mocha frappuccino's... I think like 85 grams in a tall? Compared to like 250 grams in a tall regular coffee. I bet it was the sugar that did it to you!

I do drink a lot of Starbucks, but I almost always get decaf stuff, unless I'm getting a low-caf drink like a frappuccino. Caffeine makes me too jittery and crazed feeling.

  • a cup of coffee never does that to me.  The only time I have felt that way was when I took NoDoz in college.
  • I think you just get used to the caffeine. I'm good for absolutely nothing until I've had at least one cup of coffee in the morning.
