I am 18 weeks pregnant. Just had a follow up appt today. I am level CIN3/CIS, pre-cancerous cells on the cervix. The doctor is going to do a biopsy next month and determine if I have to be induced early?? At the 26 week mark. Just wondering if anyone else has been through anything like this.
Re: Abnormal cells anyone?
well i have abnormal cells, but doc doesnt want to do a biopsy until after i deliver, if he does one at all. apparently he thinks they will just clear themselves up.
i guess this is actually nothing like what youre talking about? but im not sure... sorry, pregnancy brain gets the best of me
I don't have experience with this WHILE pregnant. However, FWIW, I had this exact thing last year. They did the biopsies and then I had to have the LEEP procedure done. After that, my paps came back clear and I got pregnant 3 months later. Now I am high risk b/c my cervix is "compromised."
The doc told me that if he found this while I had been pregnant, they usually don't treat this while you are pregnant. They said sometimes, the hormones from pregnancy make these cells grow, but after delivery, sometimes they go away.
I wish you luck and hope that you are able to work something out with your doc. I would recommend going to a gynological oncologist. That is what I did bc the OB didn't seem experienced enough with this high grade CIN III.
The LEEP is what they plan on doing after I deliver. I found out about being pregnant and the abnormal cells all in one day lol. Kind of a shocker. Doc said that at the rate that its going, if it stays consistent, it will progress into cancer and that I will have to deliver earlyyyy so that the cancer doesnt spread. I live on a military post and work most of the time, my platoon is all guys, so I don't have any female friends here. I just wanted to know that other people got through this I guess, maybe preggo hormones are freaking me out a little too. I'm not even worried about the cancer at this point, just want a healthy baby!!!
You ladies were a great help. Thank you for the comments
I got pregnant in my March cycle. But in January I had a pap done and it came back low grade abnormal. So then they did a colposcopy that came back high grade abnormal. In Feb they did another pap because the dr said sometimes it goes away, and it came back normal. Then I got pregnant and instead of doing a pap at the beginning, we waited until August to do another one. It came back low grade.
My dr said that he wasn't going to do anything about it until after the baby is born. He said that when you're pregnant, your immune system is lower and sometimes bad cells can come back (because HPV never goes away) but that a lot of times it clears up on its own after pregnancy.
As for biopsies weakening your cervix... I've read that they can weaken it and increase chance of miscarriag. Maybe your dr could just to a colposcopy instead of a cone biopsy right now.
Good luck. I know how scary this all can be.
I refused a biopsy the other day because I was just plain scared. They are doing another one on Oct 27. The doc will take no objections. Because it is CIN3, and if it progresses to cancer, they have to get it out before it spreads anymore
and they can't do that with the baby in there.
This. W/ my dd the same thing happened too but it cleared up after delivery. I would get a second opinion. 26 weeks is sooo early.
