XP; Orenco station?

the OR board told me to XP here...

Background: DH and I are moving to the Portland area from San Diego by next spring at the latest. (Depending on job situation) .

DH wanted me to ask you ladies your thoughts on Orenco Station...we're trying to explore (online) areas we'd be interested in looking, and this area looks pretty neat...this seems like a great compromise between "downtown feel" (we'd love to live downtown, but can get more bang for our buck outside of downtown) and the space/benefits of city life (we need at least a small yard/patio for our dog). Like the idea of walking to stores, farmers market, etc. Looks like it's very accessible to the MAX which is nice b/c DH would love to sell his car and use public transit. We'll just be renting, if that makes a difference.

Thoughts?

Thanks ladies!

I live pretty close to Orenco and LOVE the area.  I have some friends that have a house right by the MAX station at Orenco and they really love the location.  I highly recommend the area personally :)

I live in Orenco Station and LOVE IT!!!  You can walk to everything.  I live in the Commons at Hawthorne Village apartments which we also really like, and we are a few minutes walking distance to the Hawthorne Farms Max Station, 4 blocks to New Seasons and all the shops around there along with the farmers market which just ended the weekend before last.  You can also just take the max to the hillsboro farmers market.  I have always wanted to live in this area because it is so cute and everything is so close.  :)  Let me know if you have anymore questions!

You do?! We're practically neighbors!  We used to live right by Streets of Tanasbourne but now live at Cornelius Pass/Baseline :)

  • When I moved home from Texas we moved to Orenco Station. I had ALWAYS wanted to live there since I moved to Oregon the first time. It's such a nice little neighborhood. I love it. We lived in the Nexus apartments and they're super nice. Just too expensive. The area is wonderful though and being so close to the MAX was great! I would still live there if it hadn't been so expensive. I live close still though. We live next to the Streets of Tanasbourne. I love it over here too. This whole general area of Hillsboro is fantastic. Everything you could need is close by. :)

I too loved the streets of tanasbourne area.. We lived in the Paladia Apartments.  I'd probably move back to that area if we didn't have a dog :D

oh we probably COULD, but it would require me to walk the dog everytime he has to go potty rather than just open the back door ;)

Also, he's in his kennel while we're at work and I know he howls for a few minutes when we leave.. I can only imagine the noise he'd make if he heard neighbors.. Plus, we have a pretty big house for only 200 more a month than we paid in rent at Paladia :)

  • oh i see. that makes sense. always better to have dogs in a house i think. not really fair to them to be couped up in an apt. although, these apts are really big. lol. thats awesome though you found something that works for you. i want a house.

  • I do like Orenco station and I live in Hillsboro, but I work downtown in property management.  There are a lot of great deals downtown.  Now is the time to live downtown.  You can get up to 3 months free on brand new apartments!  If you live on the Park blocks its like you have a giant yard for your dog and a farmers market on Wednesday and Saturday!  Check out Ladd Tower.
