2nd Trimester

Has anyone ever been upgraded to first class due to pregnancy???

A girl can wish right? I fly to Hawaii (5.5 hour flight) in 2.5 weeks and am dreading the lack of room. Oh well, at least I know I will be landing in Paradise after that flight!

Re: Has anyone ever been upgraded to first class due to pregnancy???

  • umm..no. I flew alot with my last pregnancy, no special treatment.

  • Nope, but the flight attendant offered me an extra vomit bag in case I needed it.

Ha ha, that's awesome. I love it!

  • Our flight to Hawaii was 8.5 hours.  I wasn't pregnant, but there was no chance of an upgrade.  It was a full flight.  The time went quickly and I didn't feel like I had very little room.  Just keep thinking about how AMAZING it will be when you land.  Have fun!!  Which island(s) are you going to?

they probably won't upgrade you, but they may let you switch for an emergency exit row that has more room.

I doubt they'll even do this, since you have to meet certain criteria to sit in the exit row, including being able to lift the heavy exit wing door without risk to yourself or others.

  • Nope. But like someone said, never hurts to ask! Have a great trip :)

  • it happened to me on 4 flights this month without even asking. At check in the woman doing the check in was like oh honey let me get you more room and voila, I got 1st class for that entire business trip, all 4 flights. It was awesome! I never would have asked for it but no complaints here. I do fly a lot for business and have around 200,000 flier miles so that may have had something to do with it.

This.  I fly a lot and have elite status, and I stopped prebooking the exit row once I got out of 1st tri.  You have to be able to lift 50 lbs without assistance and I just didn't feel good about saying that I could do that.

I flew from Seattle to Maui at 22 weeks and it was fine.  We sat in row 6 (normally a bulkhead, though this was on Alaska where it is just behind first class with some extra legroom) and it was fine.  I flew to Philly 2 weeks ago and had normal seats, and it was fine.  The aisle helps for all those bathroom trips.  Make sure to stay very hydrated and get up and walk around to avoid a DVT.  Have a blast!  If you somehow manage to score a free upgrade, good for you, but I'd be really surprised because first class going to Hawaii is usually full.

We are also flying to Hawaii (8 hours, but a layover in there) in 2 weeks.  I booked exit row seats and am hoping they don't notice I am pregnant.  In the past, I would have used my miles to upgrade, but this trip we actually used a large portion of miles to get the seats at all.  I feel confident I could be useful in an emergency - I exercise & lift weights.  I'm really not going to ask for an upgrade, though, just in case they notice I'm pregnant & try to move me from my exit row seat.  I don't want to lose that leg room!

  • I have flown every month since my BFP, including two international/overseas trips and no special upgrades.  One gate agent was pissy with me though for not having a doctor's note even though I was only 20 weeks at the time.  LAME.
  • my aunt use to work for a airline and she said once you get on the plane as the stewaress if there is any unfilled seats in first class if you could take it once they are in the air . the airline usually ask preggos and handicap to get on first thats your chance dont bother with the gate people they tend to charge, plus they may do it seeing your preggo and need a little more room a lot of times. my mom did it and she didnt pay for upgrade
  • I hate to burst your bubble but I live in Hawaii and have flown many times from here to the mainland and back.  First class to and from Hawaii is ALWAYS full.  In fact, if they're offering you money to give up your seat, I wouldn't do it.  It's really hard to find an unbooked seat sometimes.  But that's just my experience.
