2nd Trimester

Does anyone else spend more time in the waiting room

Then actually seeing the doctor at appointments? I have an appointment at 5:30 and I am dreading it because it is with the dr that ALWAYS runs late and I don't want to sit until 6:15 to see him for 5 minutes.

I'm venting, really. I know that's just the way things are at all of the big practices around here and I don't expect it to change. This doctor is always behind because he takes as long as needed to address all of his patients' concerns. With other doctors, I am called back right away. But I don't want to sit in a waiting room tonight! Angry

  • I always have to wait, too.  I did before I was pregnant and still do for my ob appointments.  Some times are way worse than others, but I LOVE all my drs.  It doesn't matter how annoyed I get in the waiting room, I always forget about it as soon as the dr walks in the room and is sooo sweet.
  • Actually, no. I spend about 5 minutes in the waiting room and about 5 minutes with the doctor. I'm usually in and out in a total of about 20 minutes.
  • Yes. I've started to call ahead to find out how late my OB is running (always at least 1/2 hour).  Then, I can adjust my schedule accordingly and don't have to rush there only to sit.

  • Today I did.  But only because my Dr was at the hospital delivering someone else's baby.  It just reassures me that when it's time for me to deliver that he will be there with me doing his job.  I don't want a Dr that I have never seen before delivering my baby as I am sure the woman this morning appreciated having her Dr there.

  • It annoys me because I show  up either 10 minutes early or on time and I have to wait an hour.

  • At the very 1st appt I went to the lady that handles the insurance told us which doctors were notorious for running behind and which ones did a great job of getting people in on time.  I try to schedule appts for first thing in the morning or either on Saturdays.  So far doing it this way I haven't run into any problems.

I have been there though esp with my old PCP and it was incredibly frustrating!

  • Same here. We've tried first thing in the morning and end of the day when I'm scheduled with actual OB. My next appt is in a couple of weeks and because of DH and my schedules, we set it up with the nurse practitioner we saw on our original visit instead of OB. When we saw her before, she was on time, so here's hoping!

  • For me, it really depends on the day and which doctor in the practice I'm seeing. They have me rotate OBGYN's for my appointments and I've noticed that with some I wait for a long time, others I don't.

  • Yes! It's especially annoying when you have an antsy toddler in tow.

  • yep, i am usually waiting an hour to go in and see the doc for like 15.
  • After waiting over 30 minutes for my first prenatal appt in the afternoon, I started scheduling them first thing in the morning.  Now I'm in and out in about 20 minutes.  This trick didn't work with the ultrasound though.  I had to go to MFM for that and even at 8am they ran into some sort of emergency and kept me (and DH) waiting for over 45 minutes.  We both ended up being 2 hours late for work.
  • i haven't yet waited over 15 min. i usually arrive 5 min before my appt and am seen right away. my appt from waiting time to finish usually lasts about 30 minutes. when my wait is going to be long (with DS' pregnancy) they would tell me when i came in the door.
  • Yes, I waited for 40 minutes at my last appointment.  I think if one patient backs them up then the rest of us suffer waiting.  Couldn't believe how long I was waiting.

  • It always seems that I have to wait forever in the waiting room.  If I get to the office early or on time, I always end up having to wait anyway.  Sometimes it's only 15-20 minutes, but I've had to wait an hour before.  It really stinks, but I like my practice and there's not much I can do about it.

The other bad thing is that sometimes, even after I get back into the patient room, I STILL have to wait for the doctor to come in and see me.  But, usually this doesn't take as long as the wait in the waiting room.

  • I hear ya!  My OB has his private practice and yet everytime I spend more time waiting than in the room with him!  gggrrrr

  • Thankfully, no.. my doctor is usually always on time and will stand there and answer any questions I have until I'm done.

    Kristin, where are you delivering?
