Okay, girls, my nurse called and said my urine sample tested positive for strep B. She said it was no big deal at all. I will be taking ampicillin (antibiotic) 3x per day for 7 days right now. She said it's sort of like I have a UTI - I have no symptoms of one though. Then, before I'm in labor, they will need to give me an antibiotic to make sure I don't pass it onto our baby. I asked if we needed to schedule an induction, but she said no. I just will need to notify the hospital when we get there.
Of course, I called my RE nurse to confirm, and she said it really isn't a big deal.
So, who tested positive? Is it really not a big deal? I'm going to have everything written down when we head to the hospital to make sure that we don't forget to tell them about it, but I just needed a little reassurance that others have had healthy babies with this, right?!
Re: Tested positive for strep B in urine??
For my first pregnancy, I didn't have this issue. Unfortunately, I did test positive the second time around.
During labor, I got an IV with antibiotics so I didn't pass the GBS to my son. For the record, I arrived at the hospital at 9 p.m. and my son was born at 11:25 p.m. I didn't have the IV in for all that long and he's healthy and beautiful! Don't worry, it's not a big deal if your doctor knows about it beforehand.
