Pregnant after 35

clothes don't fit already?(vent/advice?)

OMG....ok, quick back story, I live in one place and work from home, my office is across the country.  Usually travel to the office once a month for a week.  I pack a week ahead and ship my luggage, so I don't have to deal with it at the airport (Fed Ex Ground is $30, major bargain and time saver) anyway, I am leaving late next week and started packing today.

My oh-so-helpful DH suggested I might want to try on some of my suits before packing them....they so do not fit....it isn't just my stomach, it is my chest too.....

I am at 13 weeks and 1 day, very excited to have made it this far, but shocked at how quickly my clothes do not fit.

Since I work from home, I do not have to wear my "work" clothes as much and therefore hadn't really tried them on...today even my "big" clothes are snug.

I am off to Target to get a Band today and hopefully that will help.  Just can't imagine how big I am going to be....I am up 5 pounds, but since I have been feeling better this week, I have started eating healthier again (less carbs, more veggies) and hopefully the gain will level off.

I know I am so lucky to be here and am not complaining, just more sharing my shock and surprise with some people who will understand (yes, my DH keeps laughing and asking me what I thought was going to happen!)

Thanks for being there ladies, your help and support have been amazing.

Enjoy your Sunday.

  • Don't fret, some of that is bloating and will dissipate.  Not all of it, mind you, but some.  Have fun shopping for new stuff!  :)

  • Could you get some maternity pants and leave your jacket open?  If you're almost out of the first trimester, I assume people will know that you're pregnant, right?  If so, they will understand if you're a little more casual than usual.
  • I'd recommend finding a couple bigger-in-the-chest shirts from your current wardrobe and a bella band for the suit pants.  I'd try and make my current suits work as long as possible b/c maternity 'suits' just aren't going to be easy to find/very nice/ and if nice, not very affordable.  I got a few pairs of black and grey mat pants that look nice enough to still pair with some of my pre-pg jackets and that is working for me now (with mat shirts now at 25 wks).  Probably by your next trip you will need many more maternity clothes!
  • I totally feel your pain/frustration!  I haven't been able to wear my regular pants since week 8!  I work in an office, so I have to dress up everyday.  I have bellabands, but they are just not that comfortable to me.  I wear pants that are a size too big -- that helps.  I wish I could just wear my yoga pants 24/7.
  • Can you wear a stretchy tank or cami underneath and leave your tops unbuttoned part of the way?
    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.
  • Thanks for all the great suggestions.  Nice to know that I am not alone!  Going shopping today, fingers crossed.

    Happy Monday.

  • I'm 19 weeks 2d and still in most of my old work clothes.  Pants are the hardest thing, and some suit bottoms just do not fit.  For others, I leave the pants unbuttoned and half-way zipped (bella band doesn't work for me).  I usually connect the button and the button hole with a rubber band.  Then I wear a long cami or empire-waist blouse on top.

It hasn't actually changed that much for me since wk 13 - I was really bloated then and now that's actually a baby :)
