Success after IF

Tell me about carpal tunnel while pg please.

Hi ladies!

I'm wondering if you ladies could share your experiences with carpal tunnel during pregnancy with me. I'm curious to know how it started, when it started, and how long you had it? I've started to get an aching pain in my wrists the past few weeks. It's not a constant pain right now but I'm worried it could be the start of carpal tunnel. I also feel a numbness and pain in my fingers and thumb. Most of the time it last for 10-30 minutes and begins to fade but this morning it stuck around for a good 4 hours and I'm still feeling a little sore.

TIA!

  • I got mine in the third trimester and it wasn't so much a pain in my wrist as it was numbing/tingling in a lot of my fingers.  It was mostly in my right hand (as I'm right handed this wasn't that great).  And mine was constant--it was all day and sometimes at night my whole hand would fall asleep.  It lasted for a month or two after I delivered too but now it's all gone.  There wasn't much they could do for me but I'd definitely let your Dr. know--there may be something they can do.  Wrist guard, physical therapy--something to make you more comfortable.  Good luck and hope it feels better!

  • I got mine about 34w and it went until I was 8w pp.  It was really bad. I had a hard time even changing a diaper because my hands were numb I couldn't feel them!
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! Ouch! I was wondering whether or not it would last after giving birth and now I know! Thanks for the info!

  • I can't remember exactly when it started but it was in about the middle of the second tri. It started with me waking up in the middle of the night with my hands asleep, it progressed so bad that I was in total pain. They ended up giving me the shots to help. I hope you don't develop it. Good luck!

  • I started getting bad carpal tunnel right around 14 weeks or so and it progressively got worse. I ended up sleeping with braces on both hands, and that helped a little bit, but my right hand was really, really bad and I would wake up in the middle of the night several times with pins and needles and complete numbness. I spoke to my doctor and she okayed getting a shot of cortisone in my wrist. So after getting a shot in my right wrist, it felt SOO much better. Eventually my left hand got really bad too and I just got another shot in my left hand as well. It takes 2-3 days for the cortisone to really start working, but it makes such a huge difference. If you are really uncomfortable, I would ask your doctor about seeing an orthopedist. Also, make sure you get some braces...they're about $25 each at Walgreens. GL! I hope you can get some relief!
