Only 2 Eggs Fertilized

We are so disappointed. We got the call a few minutes ago that only 2 of the 7 eggs retrieved yesterday fertilized. They are supposed to call back tomorrow with more details and I will be doing a 3 day transfer. What is the difference with a 3 day verses a 5 day?

Day 5 transfers are tranferring blastocysts, which has a higher implantation rate. That being said, MANY women have 3 day transfers and get pregnant. I wish you lots of luck!! You only need one, remember that!

The difference between a 3 day transfer and a 5 day transfer is how long they grow the embryos before putting them back in. Best of luck to you! Hope those embies grow strong!

I beleive a 5 day transfer is when the fertilized egg is considered a blastocyst. Some re's don't even do 5 day transfers. I think it all depends on how the egg is dividing. I had a 3 day transfer with my last ivf. Sending you lots of good embie vibes!!!

I am so sorry. Just try to keep your mind on your 2 embies and that is two chances of this working for you! 3 day transfers have had plenty of bfps. I have always thought at the end of the day, if it is a BFP, who cares if it was a 3dt or 5dt? Good luck to you, sweetie!

I was in a similar spot a couple of weeks ago. We got 15 eggs at retrieval, but only 2 fertilized. I was devastated, but both survived for a 3dt and I'm anxiously awaiting my beta this week! GOOD LUCK!!

I'm sorry you didn't get better news. If there are many embryos to choose from usually a 5 day transfer is done so that it is easier to pick out the "best" embies. Conversely, if there are fewer embies the prevailing philosophy is to just transfer ASAP since the body is a better environment for them to thrive in versus a petri dish. (Not everyone agrees with either of these philosophies but they are the most prevalent lines of thought.) Best wishes that two is all you need! F/X!

The best place for embryos to develop is in you; the reason why they usually wait until 5 days is to get the best of those that ferted. Since they will transfer 2, there is no need to wait until day 5. This does not mean your 2 are not stellar -- it just means that they want to get them where they belong. GL to you!

I was in the same boat- only 2 of my 6 fertilized. They ended up both being great quaility and one stuck though- it can happen. Best of luck to you.

we only had two fertilized and both made it to our 3dt (and we got a BFP)! so don't lose hope!!!!!! good luck to you and i'm rooting for your embies!!!

I'm sorry that you didn't have more fertilize; I know the feeling, as that happened with my 1st IVF. Hoping that your 2 embies are your shining stars. A 5dt involves transferring a blastocyst, which is a more developed embryo. Plenty of people get BFP with doing 3dts, though. Good luck to you!
