Similac Sensitive v. Enfamil Gentlease??

Has anyone tried both and have a preference? My DD is super gassy and I'm going to try formula and didn't know if one of these has had better results for anyone. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Similac Sensitive v. Enfamil Gentlease??

  • Similac Sensitive - hands down!!! DD was on Enfamil Premium, then due to gas, colic, reflux, we switched to Genltease - I think she did worse on that! It only comes in powder (I had been using RTF), so she didn't like that it was thinner and I think there were more bubbles in it from mixing. Then we switched to Similac Alimentum and she did great on that. After about a month, I wanted to try Similac Sensitive (Alimentum was costing me almost $100/week) and I don't think she had a milk protein allergy. She loves Similac Sensitive. From what I hear, it takes better than Enfamil b/c it has sucrose in it. Also, a lot of gas/fussiness is caused by lactose intolerance - Gentlease is only 1/5 lactose, whereas Similac Sensitive is 100% lactose free! And it comes in RTF, powder, concentrated cans, and those little 8oz bottles that I like to keep in the diaper bag. Gentlease only came in powder.

  • Thank you so much! I thought using RTF would be a better switch from breastmilk. We tried Nutramigen briefly a month or so ago, but she doesn't have an allergy, so it wasn't worth it. She was crying a ton back then, but now she is much better but so, so gassy and uncomfortable. She is so uncomfortable from gas that she can't sleep or stay sleeping
  • I add oatmeal cereal to DD's bottles, so it does make the formula a little frothy, so since I don't want to add to her gas, I add about 5 mylicon drops to every bottle - you see it immediately breaks up the bubbles. When I use the Similac Sensitive RTF without mixing in cereal, it doesn't have any bubbles, but you may want to think about adding mylicon to it if she is really gassy - my pedi said its safe to do with every bottle.

  • We used both. We are now using Similac Sensitive as DS was tested and is lactose intolerant and our pedi had us put him on it. We actually really liked the Gentlease and had success with it, but our pedi said we needed to take our son off of it and use the Sensitive.?

Hope the gassiness gets better soon! I know how rough it can be when baby does not feel good bc of it!

How did they diagnose it? We just assumed since she got better on it and because I had trouble with dairy when I was little, and still do to this day if I have a lot of it.

  • Definitely Similac Sensitive!  We had to recently switch because Good Start stopped carrying the formula we used.  DD loves the Similac and would not even take the Enfamil.  I actually think she has less gas now than on the Good Start which is awesome.
