Trigger Shot = Ouch!!!

I had my trigger shot last night and it didn't hurt, but I woke up this morning and that area on my belly is so sore.  I don't have a bruise, but it hurts to lay on my stomach, the water from the shower hurt, my pants hurt, sitting at my desk hurts.

My trigger was Novarel.  Is this normal?

Re: Trigger Shot = Ouch!!!

  • I use ovidrel which doesnt cause any pain, however i do remember someone else posting about a different trigger shot and everyone said that one does cause more pain/soreness.

Would a heating pad help? or maybe one of those heating things you can put under your clothes

  • I trigger with Novarel, and the nurse told me I would get a welt on my tummy and that it would hurt afterward.  I hurt for 3 days from it!  Totally normal- good luck- hopefully it was the last trigger shots for both of us...

  • I have never heard of taking Novarel thru the belly.  It is an intramuscular shot, which usually goes in your upper thigh or your hip.  Usually, Ovidrel is the subcutaneous shot, which you do take thru the belly.  I always take Novarel, and my instructions were to take either in the hip or thigh.

That scares me.  I was told to take it subcutaneaously so I did it in my belly.  Holy shiit, what if I messed this up?

I just googled novarel and found this- hope it eases your worries- looks like it can be given subQ or in the muscle.

What is the most important information I should know about HCG?

Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is given as an injection under theskin or into a muscle. If you use this medicine at home, your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist will give you specific instructions on how and where to inject this medicine.

Thanks!  I know the nurse said to inject it subcutaneosly  - I actually googled it last night to make sure.  I guess all doctors are different.
