Hi Ladies! I don?t post too much, but I need to vent.
The cliff notes of the back story is last August my husband was laid off from his job in advertising here in Chicago. 2 weeks later I found out I was pregnant. He has had a few freelance jobs recently, but that is it. Well it turns out that one of the agencies that he did some work for offered him a job?.in Michigan. It?s a good opportunity and the pay is enough where I could finally stay home with DD which I am super excited about. But I am having a really hard time coming to terms with the fact that I will be leaving my family. DD is the first grandchild for my parents, and they are so thrilled. I?m sad that they are not going to be part of her everyday life. Sad for them and sad for her. I?m so close to my parents. They are upset, which is making this even harder.
I know that it is only about a 4 hour drive, and being that I will not have to work, I can come into Chicago and stay for a week at a time if I want. But it is still hard.
I?m afraid that I am going to be lonely out there and hate it. I just don?t think that we have any other options right now.
There are so many uncertainties with going out there. What if it does not work out? We come back to Chicago and I don?t have a job. I have pretty much been supporting us for over a year so I am ready for the pressure to be off me but I am a nervous wreck to leave.
I?m sure that we will all adjust and things will fall into place, but I just can?t help feeling anxious.
Maybe I am being a little dramatic. Deep down inside, I know that this is the right decision for us right now and that it is an amazing opportunity for DH.
Ok, vent over. TGIF!!!
Re: Moving out of state (long)
Photo/Family Blog
As someone who was also transplanted to Michigan because of work, I am completely sympathetic. We moved here from Boston (where my in laws are); my family is in Philly. It really is hard being that far from them.
Where in MI are you moving? It's really not a bad place to raise a family (yay for low cost of living). And 4 hours from family, while not ideal, is not terrible. You can still visit for weekends, etc.
It'll be a hard transition, but you'll be okay. And you can always work on moving back to IL in a bit.
First of all...what a freakin' cutie!
DH and I live in FL. My parents are in NY, his mom in Iowa and his dad in Oregon. I know how you feel, as we're both only children so DD is the only grandchild as well.
Its definately hard, especially since we can't just do that 4 hour drive for a weekend then go home.
Webcam! THat helps my mom and step dad out a whole lot. We also take TONS of pictures (well, for us too of course!) and post them on facebook and photobucket to share with the family.
Everything happens for a reason, and things will work out for you
The agency is in Southfield, but we are looking at areas around there. Any suggestions? It is all happening so fast. They want DH out there in 2 weeks. Yikes!!
Thanks! Your DD is adorable. I love the ladybug hat!
My DH works in Southfield, my job is in E. Lansing, so we live in Brighton (which is the half-way point via 96 with regards to driving time). Are you planning to work? Farmington/Novi are pretty nice suburbs; Ann Arbor is a FANTASTIC city, but was too out of the way for us to consider living down there.
PM me if you want to chat more about it.
Thanks! DH actually said that we can find some Mommy and Me classes. He thinks it will be cute and a good way for me to meet people. Your DS is a cutie. Congrats on #2!
Thanks for all the support ladies! I know it will be an adjustment. But I am so excited for DH to have this chance out there. It is going to be amazing for him. He really deserves it.
Maybe I should stop lurking so much and post more. 6-12 is not too scary
Your DD is adorable as well. Thanks! A webcam is an awesome idea. Maybe I can get mom to sign up for facebook. That would be interesting.
It will be hard but it will be do able! My mom moved to NC while I was pregnant and we manage. I agree with the PP Skype is great. My mom and DS "chat" at least once a week.
Also SE MI is really a great area. If your DH is going to be working in Southfield, I'd look for a place in Novi, Northville, Walled Lake, or Plymouth. Mostly just west of Southfield.
If you want to know more about the area PM me. I've lived here on and off most of my life.
Thanks! I know it is not super far by any means, so I think that it will be ok. I am starting to feel better about it. I'm still nervous, but I think that it will be a good thing.
I have looked at Novi in Craigslist, but none of the other areas that you mentioned. I am going to do that now!
