PIO versus Endometrin

Is there really a difference? Do doctors have a preference?

Re: PIO versus Endometrin

  • My RE didn't have a preference. I will say that I started with Endometrin. It was so messy and since it's not in your blood stream, my progesterone levels always came back lower. I switched to PIO after my first u/s and I've had no problems since. I wish I would have just started with PIO.

That is just my opinion though.

  • I was told by my RE that I have to use PIO for 2 weeks and then I can switch to endometrin if I get a BFP.  Which is what I intend to do.

  • from what i have read, they are both equally effective. my doctor def. preferred PIO, but he also added endometrin, too. i didn't really have very low numbers or anything, either. he is just extremely conservative.

  • I was on endometrin for my first IVF and my progesterone came back low at my 7dpt visit. I asked them today if this should be a concern for my upcoming 2nd IVF and they said they may just have me stay on the PIO this time which I think I would feel more comfortable with and may push for to ease my mind.
