Huge sperm improvement - weird?

So we went in for our first round of IUI yesterday and DH's sperm prior to washing was grade 3, 51% motility.  After washing it was grade 4, 54% motility.

 His previous 2 SA's were both 19% motility and grade 2 for one and grade 3 for the other.

 I couldn't believe when the doctor read those numbers.  Doesn't that seem strange?

TTC since 7/08 SAIFW welcome! SA - normal HSG clear! DX - unexplained infertility 5 failed IUI's IVF #1 Jan. 2011 = BFP!

    Plus, washing can really improve the motility! (I don't know if the previous 2 you mentioned were washed). Great news!

    It's not strange at all.  A lot of environmental factors can affect men's sperm- especially heat.  So perhaps he kept the boys cooler this time and that's why they were better.  We saw a jump from 4 million and 30% motility to 16.5 million and 50 motility (before washing- 21 million and 84% after washing).  It was unreal.  The only thing that changed was that dh stopped going to the gym and sitting in the steam room.  That alone was the difference. 

    3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
    IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again

    1st IUI, post wash counts were under 5m.  Less than 1 month later at the next IUI, post wash counts were over 30m.  I was shocked by the difference too, but I guess it can happen.
