3rd Trimester

I actually DREAD bedtime....

I really do....sleep is such a chore to me now. it takes at least 3-5 mins to get comfortable, then once I'm in a comfortable position I have to get up and pee.....then go and try to get comfortable again....then my brain won't shut up cause I'm thinking of completely ridiculous things, not even important things....just BS....like what it would be like to have 19 kids....or what this bumpie or that bumpie is doing....or why it is that some days the ice at Sonic is really soft and other days really crunchy....TOTAL nonsense. then I have to pee again and by now i've been attempting to lay for like an hour so my RLS starts to act up so I have to get up and walk around, which of course makes my back hurt so i find myself in the bathtub at 2 am .... then I'm all hot/wet/sticky from the bath so I come sit online for 15 mins to dry off.....and by now its dam near 3:30 and i'm finally finding some way to ease in to sleep...only to have to wake up in less than 3 hours.Crying

can I either be knocked out nightly, or given something to just keep me awake for the rest of my pregnancy?!? PLZ?! TY.

  • Sounds like me, honestly. I don't sleep at all. I can get comfortable but then my mind just won't shut up! I'm so sleep deprived that I'm not even tired anymore.

i think this is me. but its getting to the point where I am violently hurtling from slap happy to terribly pissy. sleep deprivation + preggie hormones have made me almost unbearable to live with.....poor DH.

  • Why not take some Benedryl or something to help you go to sleep? Staying up for so long and not getting enough sleep is not healthy for you... :( Hope you find something to work!

can't take antihistamines....the active ingredient in Benedryl, Sleep aids and a lot of over the counter cold medicine (diphenhydramine) makes my RLS even worse than it already is.

Aw, man. That really sucks. Have you talked to your doc about this? Maybe he'd have something that doesn't have antihistamines in it?

  • Try earplugs and extra pillows.
  • There has to be a sleepaid you can take! Ask your doc! I know dh takes an over-the-counter one thats main ingredient is triptophan whats in turkey and it works pretty good for him...
  • what about melatonin? double check if it's safe.

  • Sorry Im no help my dr told me to take benadryl since I dont sleep either. My body always has contractions all night so I didnt sleep for like two days and my OB is like you need some sleeping drugs. I dont take them unless they are super bad. Not a fan of drugs while pregnant. Oh and I saw you are being induced the 26th if you dont deliver too. Guess we will be having the LO on the same day if my amnio goes well :)

  • I hear you. I'm so tired, but I know I'm going to sleep like crap no matter when I go to bed, so why bother turning in early?

  • I also dread going to bed...some nights are good and other nights are just SOOO bad.  Having to get up 3-4 times in the middle of the night is bad enough...but you are sooo right in that each time you do that it's a chore!  I will have to try the benadryl idea!

  • I don't sleep either...hence Im up bumping at 2:30!  Have you tried some sleepy time herbal tea?  Maybe it's just mental, but seems to help me sometimes.  GL!
  • I feel your pain too.  And then at like 2:00 in the afternoon, I could totally go to bed right at my desk!  Lately, my laptop's been down with a virus, so I couldn't even bump at night!  Plus, if one more person just tells me "I'd better get used to it.."  I think I might smack them.  Like I don't know what's coming with a baby.  Sheesh.

I think I'm going to try some of that sleepytime tea a PP mentioned.  Maybe put some lullabies on and go sit in the recliner.

  • Just wait until you have the baby!  I really dread nights now - when you go to sleep comfortably but know you'll be up again shortly!  Does make it better having an adorable little baby to keep you company while you're up though, and it's totally worth the lack of sleep! (and I write this at 2am while I'm nursing my little guy!)
  • I take magnesium and potassium supplements to help with RLS. Maybe see if your doc would ok that. It's helped me a lot!

  • I have days where I feel like this.  Fortunately the have been getting a bit better.  I do some relaxation exercises, self-hypnosis, read and try to minimize fluid intake at night.  Most days this helps, other days I just get up for a couple of hours and have a snack and get on the bump so I don't feel tortured in bed.  Good luck!
