What do you pay your nanny?

We have had bad luck with in home daycares and have been interviewing nannies.  We are offering $8 per hour cash and they seem fine with that.  What about if they are bringing their own child with them.

TIA!

Re: What do you pay your nanny?

  • We pay our nanny a flat fee for the month. She has core hours and if she works over those core times then we pay her an hourly rate. If she works less because we came home early then she still gets the same amount. The flat fee and core hours helps us budget accordingly and our nanny knows the minimum she will bring home each month.

We give her some paid holidays and she gets three paid sick days a year. When my parents are in town we give her those days as paid vacation.

She can bring her daughter when she is sick or has a school vacation. We have video games her daughter can play. But we do require we be given advanced notice if she needs to come.

  • Going rate where we live for a live out nanny is $3000/month for 50 hours/week. Works out to $13.80/hour. Not sure how much you'd discount for someone bringing her own child.

  • From what research I have done, you also have to pay some payroll type taxes.    https://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq/0,,id=199649,00.html  Take that into consideration when you are determining how much you can afford to pay the nanny.
