Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Here is one for Moms of 2u2...

imagerenebean319:

i think people who get pregnant immediately or close after their first are potentially robbing their first lo w/one on one time with mom & dad.

i also think its more than a little selfish.

Re: Here is one for Moms of 2u2...

  • I don't have 2u2, but I'm aiming for it.

Is it therefore irresponsible to have a second child at all?  That poor second child never gets any one-on-one time with the parents at all.

  • I don't understand this and never will.  So what about your 2nd that never gets that alone time then?  Duh.
  • I hope she doesn't end up back on 1st Tri in the next 3 yrs.

  • Well, she did say it was an unpopular opinion.  I wonder what she thinks about those with twins or those who got pregnant without TTC.  What does she expect them to do, after all? I guess I'm selfish for not selelctively reducing one of them.Confused
  • go ahead flame away.

like i said it's inside an unpopular opinion post.

  • That made me kind of mad.  I agree with fish....when is it "ok" to have a 2nd baby in her eyes?  That 2nd LO will never have one on one time.

I guess thats why she saved it for the "Unpopular Opinion" post.

  • eh to each their own.

The 2nd kid will never have one on one time...does that make them worse off?!

    yes, thats why i did.

and for the record, i only have one right now. so odds are i'm completely wrong.

don't get your panties in a bunch.

  • Yes, because waiting until the oldest is 2 or older will make such a difference. By then they are completely independent and don't need one and one time with mom and dad.

When they are older they are more aware of what is going on and are more likely to show and feel jealousy. No matter how old your kids are or how big the age difference it will always be a juggle and you will always have to carve out some one on one time with each child.

  • I really don't see what "selfishness" has to do with it at all?

I imagine it might be a struggle to give one undivided attention as often when there are two kids around - but that's two kids of any age. Not unique to 2U2.

eh, i have no good way to explain this.

its just the first word that came to mind.

  • I just don't understand this argument.  I'm the older of two children, and I don't think that having a sibling made me miss out on any quality time with my parents at all - and having a sibling fairly close in age was so much more rewarding than damaging... I just don't see how it could be a bad thing.  But whatever, to each her own.

Yeah, thats what I said. I cried for a few months...we def did not want more than one for another 3-4 years...not 9 months later...

Unpopular does not = being mean. Somthing you and the OP don't seem to understand.

I could post having 1 child is selfish, but I think, wth would you say something so hurtful to someone else?

You posted a really unpopular opinion that could potentially offend lots of women.  You shouldn't have expected any less, not that I really care that much.

maybe my apology didn't come across as sincere, but it was.

it was just an opinion of mine from someone who doesn't have two kids yet.

y'all can take that with a grain of salt.

i'm really not qualified to judge anyone on their decisions.

was it not the right venue? or maybe we should just keep the really, really unpopular opinions to ourselves?

that should probably be a disclaimer in those threads.

Technically, it was the right place.  However, I think you should have thought about your wording more carefully.  Those of us with twins are unplanned pregnancies are annoyed/ticked off. I found out I was having twins at 9 weeks, and I cried for months and even went through therapy.  It was tough, but I can tell you I gave them as much attention as I possibly could.  I'm proud to say I think I only propped a bottle twice that whole first year.

okay, well then i'm extending my apology from the pp to everyone that i may have offended.

in no way am i backpedaling, but i am acknowledging that it was a possibly douchetastic comment.

  • As an only child I think having siblings is better.

My ideal is to have mt kids be about 2 years apart - they can play together, you as a parents don't have to plan for vastly different developmental stages.  The positives outweigh the negatives - but I do think it's roughest on mom for the first 5 years.

  • Hmm.  Calling people selfish for doing it is odd to me.

Everyone has their reasons.  Us, my husband and I aren't what you would necessarily call, "young".  We wanted more than one child so decided it was best to have them close together. (Why I'm explaining myself is beyond me.)

  • My kids are really being robbed because they are twins.  How are they ever going to be normal adults?  I am so selfish for having twins.
