Anyone's LO not always unlatch when done nursing?

I've noticed that sometimes DS will just pull off without letting go.  And it hurts!  Anyone have a LO that did this and find a way to correct it?

  • DD does the same thing, if I notice her start to pull away I will stick my finger in the corner of her mouth to have her open a bit to let go. I usually don't catch it fast enough and she just rips away. Feels like she is going to rip my nip right off!

  • She's starting to do that now actually.  She did it yesterday and it startled me.  Most of the time she lets me know she's done by switching to comfort sucking but lately its this 'get the boob away from me' movement.
  • mine does, but it isn't to the point where it hurts, yet! he mostly does it when he's fussy, and i haven't figured out a way to distract him from it...  BUT i will say, when my DS was 1 week old we saw a LC and she was checking my method and offered suggestions...  one thing she did that i didn't get (then) was to support his shoulders/upper back with my hand and push him gently/firmly towards my breast, and hold.  i'm assuming it's a technique to keep LO on the breast, but i didn't ask her the reason behind it at that moment....   maybe it will work for you??
