third day of a headache - what to do?

I've had this nagging headache for the past three days. ?I'm on allegra, nasonex, and use a Neilmed sinus wash system (similar to a neti pot), and this headache feels like it's in my sinuses. ?I know it's not from a sinus infection or cold, since I don't have any of the symptoms of those. ?What can I do to get some relief?! ?I've tried Constant Comment and peppermint teas, and take about 3-4 Tylenol capsules a day, which help when I do take them (I don't want to take any more than that). ?Is a headache a pregnancy-related symptom?

Re: third day of a headache - what to do?

  • yes, it can be pregnancy related.  I get one every day b/w 3 and 5 and its super annoying, but can only blame pregnancy as ive not had a headache problem prior to this.

  • i had some pretty bad headaches around week 8. ?Mine weren't sinus related though. ?My doc said i could take extra strength tylenol as it is directed on the bottle, and try to stay hydrated. ?She also suggested drinking a little bit of soda because the caffine can help.

She said if all that didn't work to call her back and they would get me on a pill that had a bit of caffine in it. ?Luckily the extra strength tylenol and drinking lots of water seemed to do the trick. ?As well as staying in the dark as much as possible :o).

  • Try drinking a Coke.  Sometimes the caffeine helps.  Also try an ice bag on your head.  Those two things usually help me.

  • i had terrible headaches last pg. an ice pack on my forehead really helped. it is a symptom but not always necessarily normal. it can be a sign of high blood pressure. let ur dr know at your next appt and if your bp is normal he will be able to prescribe you tylenol w codeine when you get to 2nd tri. good luck.
  • Did you give up drinking coffee or change something in your diet/drink routine?

I had horrible headaches my first pregnancy and it ended up being because I gave up soda and I was having withdrawls.  I went back to drinking 1 a day (or having iced tea) and the headaches went away.

  • It definitely could be a pregnancy symptom.  You can try 1 extra-strength Tylenol.  There is also this nasal saline spray called "Ocean Nasal Spray."  It keeps your nasal passages moist which can help a lot.

I hope you feel better soon!  If it keeps up you can always call your Dr.  He may have some good suggestions.

I had horrible headaches my first pregnancy and it ended up being because I gave up soda and I was having withdrawls.? I went back to drinking 1 a day (or having iced tea) and the headaches went away.

I gave up caffeine, but that was around week 2-3, when I discovered I was pregnant, so I would have thought that the withdrawals would have disappeared by now. ?I have been drinking 1-2 cups of tea a day with this headache, so maybe it's that.

I also should have normal blood pressure - it's never been higher than average. ?So I don't know....grrr... :)

Thanks ladies, for all the advice - every bit of it helps!?

  • At the beginning of this week I finally got rid of a 2 week long headache. I was so weary I just wanted to cry. I really don't want to take any medicines so I put cold rags on my head at night and drank all the water I could hold. I think sometimes we pg ladies will just have headaches. I did do an hour of yoga and took a 2 hour hike on Sunday (and my headache was gone on Monday) so maybe a little extra exercise will help! GL!

  • aww, I hope you feel better soon!
  • I've had an unrelenting headache myself for the past 3 days.  Finally, yesterday I drank a cup of coffee with after taking the Tylenol.  That really seemed to help.

From what I've read, headaches are a common symptom of pregnancy due to the increased blood volume, your brain doesn't transition well to any changes in bloodflow.

Try a little caffeine, hopefully that will help you like it did me.

  • Me too!  3rd day in a row....but it doesnt start hurting until I go to work???

  • Have you considered going to see a chiropractor? Having regular adjustments for my first pregnancy helped me so much ~ I have pretty bad allergies and I was able to complete quit taking my daily allergy med. I also had no back pain for the whole pregnancy and delivered a sunny side up baby in just over an hour without any meds ~ I contribute that all to my chiro!
