Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

NTR: WWYD? (job related)

I work very part-time. Normally, I work Tues/Thurs from 2:30-11 and then the same shift every other weekend. The pay is decent and I have amazing benefits.

Recently my boss asked me to switch to the overnight shift (on my weekends) and said that they would adjust my schedule so that I would be home in time for DH to go to work, etc. They have been extremely flexible and understanding. So, now I work 10-8:30 on those Saturdays and 10-7am on those Sundays that I work.

I have two issues. The girl that I work with is insane. Seriously, she is crazy and tells me off the wall stories about selling vision boards on ebay along with magic potions. I can't get away from her. My boss wants me to address this with her through email (and BCC my boss) and see if it gets better. However, I only see it getting worse considering she is the only person I work with.

Then, I am having a hard time catching up on sleep on Monday. DH is awesome about letting me sleep as long as I want on Sunday day, but I can't ever sleep longer than 3 hours, so by the time Monday comes, I am freaking exhausted.

So, should I suck it up since it is only every other weekend? The pay increase is pretty decent, and I don't really have to deal with the office politics and/or being called a f*cking white ass b*tch by the teen girls I work with.

Or should I just ask to switch back to evening shift? If so, then I need to be able to give my boss a decent reason why I want to switch back. Ugh.

  • Its annoying to work with strange people. I used to work in government with a bunch of old, crotchety women who complained about everything. It was such a downer. I would email the crazy girl and try to have her tone it down. If/when she doesn't, thats a good reason to bring to your boss for wanting to switch back to evening shift. You said they have been flexible so just be honest and say that the shift isn't working out with you in terms of sleep/wake cycle. Not everyone can work those hours! It doesn't hurt to ask. GL!

  • Also I do the night thing every night, you will get used to the sleep it will just take time about 4-5 weeks.

So I would give it 4-5 weeks if it doesnt get better then I would switch back

See, I don't know if I will get used to it, because it is only every 2 weeks. If it was a weekly thing then I could see that, but I have work 2 overnight weekends now, and each time I felt like crap on Monday.

  • So the girl tells you crazy stuff. Are you afraid she will hurt you? If not, then learn to let go of the crazycrap. I had a nutball that I had to work with on the overnight shift. She told me things I never ever wanted to know about her. It wasn't ideal, but not worth switching my shift over.

Ha. I work with that crazy *** the whole night. Will she hurt me? No. I hope not but honestly I am f'ing sick of hearing her talk about her fiance in jail, her 7 year old that drinks coffee every morning, and her insane potions, etc. She asked me if I wanted to come over and help her put glitter in her potions.

She is crazy. Crazy enough for me to switch shifts without skipping a beat.

  • What line of work are you in that teenagers can get away with calling you a f*&(ing white ass b*&ch???!!!

If you think you can keep up the schedule going forward and not burn out, I would keep doing it for the extra money.  But if it's so bad that the exhaustion might really run you down, switch back.  GL!

  • Can you wear headphones so that maybe she'll get the hint that you don't want to talk to her?  I'd say try it.  Who can't use a little extra money.  Tell your boss you'll give it a try for 4-6 weeks and let him know if you think you'd be able to handle the late hours.

I work in a treatment group home for teen girls. Getting called every name in the book happens on a daily basis.
