My 19 mth DS refuses to talk!

Well he talks, but only to us! When we see friends or when he goes to daycare, he will not utter a word. He has starting biting in daycare & the teachers are trying to get him to use his words so that he won't be frustrated but he just will not talk. Only gestures. As soon as I go pick him up he will talk to me.  Anyone else go through this? Any advice?

  • Could you spend a little time with him at daycare so he can see you talking to the teachers? Maybe you could talk with him and one of his favorite teachers (if he has one) and see if he'll talk since you're there. Maybe he's shy?

  • I stay for a while when I pick him up & talk to his teachers. He sees me talking to them & will even talk to me in the presence of his teachers (if I'm there). One day he asked me for "up" and when prompted by me, went through all his animals. The teacher said it was the first she'd ever heard from him. I just thought it was strange that he's never uttered a word with them without me being there. He's been in daycare since 9 weeks old.
